Hi all...was just wondering if anyone had experienced any air cond problem with their F30s?

My F30 is about 1+ year old (20k milieage) and she started to have some air cond issue since last year September. Basically sometimes the air cond is cold sometimes its not (just warm air coming out of the vent). Any f30 owners have this problem too?

Regards.

my problem with my aircond was that some leafs fell into the firewall area after about 20k km causing the aircond to have all sorts of weird sounds when the air cond is blowing.

didn't encounter your problem though. most likely you need a refill of gas or arrange to send it for a leak check with your service centre.

ya..i have actually refilled the gas in September last year...but i dont think its the gas problem since there's still cold air.

its the vent controller. especially if you put to auto, i believe the diverter got stucked and allow heated air to come in instead. "DO NOT" disable this features as many mechanics will advice. but send it back to SC and tell them exactly what i have told you. the down side of this fix will be, if the guys doin git did a bad job, you will get squeaky dashboard after that. so, before you send it in, do get yourself a tube of rubber grease. hand it to tech and ask him ... please please apply this at all the joints. :)

Mentioning about auto mode, or recirculation mode, I do smell some outside air coming into the cabin once in a while..complained to sc and they said it is normal... Anyone else experiencing this?

I am referring to the LEFT knob. However, the temperature cools down very slow, usually we turn on the Max knob for cooling down first.
As for the Auto or Manual (A/M), it was recommended to set to Auto mode.

i did left it at Auto mode, the little green light lit on the left side of the air-circulation button. but i do get some smell coming in.

SA told me to set it to A mode, else, if you set it to M, then air will circulate from outside... this is what i was briefed when i collect the car. Ever since, I didn't get outside engine smells. You can read the manual to understand too....

I was also on A mode for a day and had exhaust fumes from other cars coming into the interior...hmmm

Auto mode should maintain the temp at the preset. if the coil goes below preset, the vent will divert outside air to warm/balance it up. it has been cases where CKD F30 have this vent stucked and not closed properly

but the smell comes at the same interval all the time.. say every 20 minutes? while i'm on my way to work once i pass by a certain part of the road then i can smell the outside fume coming into the interior. that's how i know the vent is open at the same interval.. so not really a case of getting stucked.. This is more like a factory setting for intermittent opening up of the vent. well, the air quality in Germany could be pristine, but not here in KL..

ya loh.. the auto system keep adjusting itself against the temperature inside vs outside.

This car built-in a lot of intelligent control systems especially related to Fuel consumption such as Start/Stop, intelligent Air Cond control systems so as to reduce the fuel consumption. That is why it was branded as Efficient Dynamic car.

All this car needs is an air pollutant sensor like the ones on the Benz. Works wonders especially when you go into tunnels.

Guys,

A=Auto and M=manual (air recirculated)
According to the manual, if you select A, it will refresh the air inside with outside air every 12 minutes. Hence, if u are driving most of the time in the city with traffic jam then avoid A as you may get the exhaust fume from buses or lorries in front of you once the ventilation is opened. Using A all the time will also increase your FC as the inside cabin temperature will rise everytime outside air comes in and hence a little extra work for the engine to achieve the desired inside cabin temperature.
Generally i select M to recirculate the air inside. I turn it on only when driving along the hi-way
It is recommended to drive with Auto only under the following conditions:
1. when you buy durians and could not bear the smell along the way back home (you have to anyway) or
2. if you feel like farting with passengers inside your car...muah ha ha .

Cheers

i don't see any M on my air recirculation button.. only A.. i know if the light lit on the left should be A, and on the right should be M i suppose..

Unknown to many. There's also the safety aspect to the cabin air re circulation besides stopping the smell from outside coming into the cabin. By default the outside air should be allowed into the cabin for replenishing fresh air to the driver and passengers especially on long haul journey that may takes hours and reduce in cabin oxygen level may result in drowsiness and fatigue and endanger safety. So many continental makes come with the default setting to let fresh air into the cabin unless user turns it off. So if you are driving long distance, it's advisable to let some fresh air into the cabin on regular interval.

I thought that even with recirculation disabled, the air-con unit will still let in some fresh air after every interval. This is to ensure that the oxygen level is maintained.
