Hi bros,I noticed that my driver side air cond vent is not that cold especially on hot days. Not exactly blowing out hot air, but not cold either. Takes a while before it eventually blows cool. However, the passenger side is OK. Any idea what problem it could be?Thanks!

Just to share my experience. Are u talking about the centre vent? Was informed by AB mechanic before that the a/c system in bmw is designed to channel the air to one side of vent if the volume of refrigerant is low. Refrigerant volume low can be due to leakages at cooling coil / compressor / hoses etc for a/c system. So if suddenly one side of your centre vent is slightly warmer than the other, than u need to check yr refrigerant volume.

On the other hand, if you are talking about the side vents near the door, i think it is known to blow slightly less compared to centre vent due to further location from blower :)

what petrus said is true...
i ad the same problem few days ago...after check...my mechanic said it might be the leakage of cooling coil...but it's very troublesome if want to change it because it need to remove ur dashboard lol...so i just top up the gas and now it's cold again :)

i changed my cooling coil 2 months ago.... because every time fill up gas only last me 2 weeks...then at the end of the day i gave in and changed oso... hahaha ....

how much for the cooling coil bro?

i think it was RM1200 for the whole thing.... the coil itself if im not mistakken is RM600. the rest are the expansion valve, filter drier and charging of refrigerant gas.... or you can ask AB and they charge u RM6.3k :p

wow...Rm1200 and Rm6300 sooo big the gap...ya

Great info for future problem here... thx bro Petrus...

Was deciding to do preventive measure after my babe came out of th eclinic to service (wash and clean) the entire AC system as well as the Intake and A/C related... its better to be safe then sorry later...

Weather these days are very hot, i notice that after driving our national car for almost 3 weeks now :p

But like Petrus mentioned ive benn quoted RM 3K just to service A/C in AB so might do it in other reputable AC service shop... Any suggestions?

Like this can buy an iswara woo...thanks for sharing bro petrus

Just topped up my gas. Seems to be OK now. But if it goes hot again few days later, I'll know I have bigger problems. Been looking up other bimmer forums. As you said, one side hot and the other cold can be caused by low gas also. So am hoping that's all there is to it....

mine amazingly so cold even at 32 degress..and i set the fan at the lowest setting..still cold..sometime even my hand felt numb

Actually might be something wrong. At 32degrees, it's supposed to blow hot air. Well, with the setting at the 3 red dots (hot mode) anyway. But if it's at the 3 blue dots, then the air should still be relatively warm from the centre vents.

Mine is also the same. After much research I think the heater unit has been removed in our bimmers that's why it's cold air all the way. This can only be confirmed if you or I remove our dashboards to check.

Salut

Mine at 3 red dots blows out really hot air from all vents. At 3 blue dots, the centre vents comes out warm air, but side vents still cold. But anyway, looks like you have the better scenario. I don't see any use to have hot air in our climate anyway :)

for KK, lots of the a/c shops around kolombong claims they can service our bmw a/c. They will even show u photos of them dismantling the dashboard of the e46. At the end of the day, i decided to just stick with my regular mechanic :)
