Hi, sifu-sifu,My ride is e39 and it is time for me to change all my 4 tyres cause the DOT was 3403, expired liao. The current tyre size is 235/45/17 all round. Rim are 8jx17". Question now: can I increase the rear to 265/40/17 while maintaining the tyre size for the front? Attached picture of rim just in case I missed out any point. Thanks a million.

Gerald5,
Are your rear rims staggered? If yes, the correct specification is 255/40R17. If not, it's better to keep to 235/45R17 all round, if not the overall performance will suffer!

stay 235/45/17, but never go below 235 or you'll learn a very expensive mistake!!!

Jerman, we have same rims now ;) Can I use the same 235/45/17 for my rear tyres as the fronts?

Now, you car is back to the original specs:top:! Yes, no issue at all to use the same size all round.

p/s: I'm on Yokohama R1@ RM400 per pc

Thanks to both Jerman and affan66. Initial intension was to have BIG wheel at rear, like the looks. Forgive my ignorance, have seen a lot in the tyre thread on "Staggered" but have not idea what it means...The reason I ask about the size of 265/40/17 was simply because when I check on the user manual on tyre pressure, it show 2 setting. 1) 235/45/17 all round and 2) front 235/45/17 and rear 265/40/17. Btw, I should take your advise Jerman. Yokohama R1, what is the speed rating?? Any place to recommend for my tyre change? Not a fast driven but would go up to more than 200km/h once in a while in my own spirited drive.. short sprint only. Thanka again guys.

bro,
"looks" is always the "killer" in decision making! As the favourite Malaysian tagline "gaya mesti mahu" :top:
  • staggered means both front and rear rims are different in width. Example, front 8Jx17' and rear 9Jx17"
  • this means, one need to have different width tyres eg 235/45R17 (front) and rear 255/40R17.
  • having said that, I'm on 235/45R17 for both front & back. Worry about the weight
  • Yokohama R1 speed rating W (up to 270kph)

p/s: If you are from Klang Valley, try Bandar Sunway PJS 11/7 as there are row of tyres shop. My regular is in Taman Melawati, KS Tyres 03-41086316, Mr Chong.

You want the staggerred tires for 17"?.

I probably will have 2 month old michelin pilot sports 255/40/17 tires x 2 for sale in a few days. Reason? Kena racun by these 5 series members guys to get 18" so I am upgrading to 18".

Ask Jerman, he's seen my tires. Also maybe I have 2 x 60% Yokohama ES300 DNA 235/45/17 tires from the front. Interested pls pm me.

bro, your upgrade size should based on your stock tyre size. is your current size 235/45/17 stock standard that comes with your car? use the tyre calculator online to get the correct upgrade size. if 235/45/17 is not your stock size, then upgrading it again to a different size will give u a margin of error of more than 3%.

Nice to have met u too, Gerald5. U have a very nice car. Hope you do u the lobang in the splash shield behind the bumper. It can be a DIY thing also.

Of course here we have to use our nickname......But it's a bit uncomfortable in daily life use.

I think we can make it a point to meet around MPS on some weekends. Ada car wash in front some more. I like this tire shop. service is quite likely one of the better ones.

Anyway gerald5 part no is: 51 71 81 594 25 ( Left) & 51 71 81 594 26 (right). as far as I know, Bavarian Auto has these in stock. Pls go direct to Segambut branch, talk to the nice girl in front desk.
