hi,I asked BMW Malaysia a couple of months ago regarding importing my 525d UK spec to Malaysia and this is the reply i get...Thank you for your interest towards our BMW products and services.First and foremost, my sincere apologies for the delay in reverting back to you due to a faulty email system which caused the hold-up in receiving your request.Kindly be informed that the BMW diesel model range that were brought into the Malaysian market are compatible with our local diesel fuel.Do note that the vehicle / engine which you own has is not being released for the Malaysian market. It is also not recommended to remove the DPF as this affects the overall performance of the vehicle considering that the engine management system is programmed to work with the DPF. Therefore, we do not recommended to transport your current car into Malaysia.Should you need further information about our local BMW authorized dealer, we would be pleased to arrange an appointment for you to drop by the showroom when you are back in Malaysia.Thank you.Mit freundlichen Gruessen / Best regards,Joanne-- BMW Group MalaysiaJoanne ChanMarketingBMW Voice Team LeadeToll Free: 1800 88 3000 (ext 4)Oversea: +603 2082 0000Fax: +603 2082 0082mailto: bmwvoice@bmw.com.myUrl: http://www.bmw.com.my comment, anyone?

I know a friend who is using 525d e60..never heard any issue frm him..

that is a standard 'corporate response' from bmw malaysia, to cover their backside in the event your car kaputs in bolehland.

Update....

my reply, and the subsequent replies from them..

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I find it quite funny because i knew an AB dealer who brought in imported diesel model from Europe and sell them to malaysian market. In your first email you said that it is not recommended to remove the DPF, but in your subsequent reply you acknowledge that the DPF is removed from the model sold in Malaysia. Is you answer implied that if i want to bring my car back to malaysia, i'll have to have the DPF removed and have the ECU remapped, but you won't do it (although you know who can do it)?

I bought the car in anticipation of the planned introduction of Euro 4 diesel in 2012, which has since been delayed untul 2014. As i have an AP to import the car here, it will be wasteful if I don't take the opportunity. Rather than suggesting a blanket solution (i.e. don't bring back your car), i guess it is much better if you could suggest steps/things that i should do to bring it back. Afterall, it will be another car for you to look after.

Could you please give me a straightforward answer to my question? I'm looking forward to an honest answer.

Thanks again for taking time to reply to my email.

Dear Mr xxxx,

Thank you for your email.

Please note that our local diesel would not be suitable for your 2005 UK spec model. The diesel models that have been bought into Malaysia are built to suit the different needs of the market, which includes certain changes from the plant itself to accommodate the lower diesel quality. For example the removal of diesel particulate filter (DPF) and different engine management unit programming to cater for the removal of DPF. Therefore, it is highly not advisable to bring in your unit to Malaysia.

Do also be informed that our dealerships would not have the capability to remove the diesel particulate filter and reprogram the engine management unit. Therefore, there will be a risk that the vehicle will not perform as it does in the UK.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / Best regards,
Joanne

Hi, thanks for your reply. Would you clarify further on your recommendation not to bring my car back to malaysia? I'm aware that the model is not available in malaysia but there is a model that uses the same engine model (m57, 530d) being released in malaysia.
In term of maintaining the car, how hard will it be to have it service/maintain/repair in any of your service centre? Is it possible to do that anyway?
Best regards,
xxxx

Dpf can be removed in Uk and ECU reprogram for this dpf delete. Maybe you can consider this solution.
