Hi all..Can someone confirm whether active steering is standard or an option in E60?if it is an option, how to know whether it has active steering or not?thanks in advance

For recond, as far as I know, it's an option bro, some do come with active steering and some don't. Best is to run a check using your vin on realoem or some other site to know for sure. Or get your mech to do a check simple.

My understanding is that active steering is standard across e60 range...
Try to feel it by test drive

My '05 523i UK-spec doesn't have it, and i dun mind, less to worry about

Problems with ASteering??

Active Steering System is design with Safety as one of the prime objectives and if problem do surface (usually inside the planetary gear unit), there is a second shaft that runs all the way through from the steering wheel shaft to the steering rack so that conventional steering is available. ..

Duly noted bro. However I am a bit surprised coz I believe after my model 04 M57 engine, all E60 comes with a standard Active Steering System. Guess I was having the wrong perception :frown: ...Can you pm me your vin number (if you dun mind) for me to dbl check with BMW.

Cheers.

Jak, for sure yours don't have Active Steering becoz you are 'Active-fer' than your steering... :24:

the AS is standard on all CKD/SKD e60 sold in Malaysia via authorized dealer....for recond cars which majority comes from Japan and UK, it is optional feature that you can opt for when they buy the cars as both market has the option to spec and individualized their cars....

while some say if u have AS your steering is lighter...this is not true coz either with AS or not...there will be still the power assisted steering and AS is not for power assisting...it assist in turning actually...u turn less on slow speed to achieve full lock and it increases the ratio at high speed....and it is part of the DSC system where the servo system will compensate with more or less steering input that the car thinks in order to stabilise and maintain control of the car....

Mine is active steering but i prefer not to have it. Once faulty then you really need a deep pocket... touchwood... it happened once but was fixed just by reprogramming only

mine is ck74564...would appreciate if you could check mine...
