Hi bros, I've driven my 530i briskly with the allegro tempo and found the brakes does not give the assuring bite that will come to full stop if needed. The car mass with forward dash to a full stop is not confidence inspiring.I've checked with the workshops and all of them says my brakes are ok and none of them says yes to the need for brakes upgrade. Another mechanic test drived my car and shows me that my brakes grip is better than my tires, he jammed my brakes and my 70% tyres marks the road for a short slippage. I still feel the need for the faster grip response to be better in emergency situation. Its the most critical thing to me. I've learned from somewhere every 0.1 sec delay will equal to 4 feet less stopping range at 100kmh with our car mass.Any suggestions ? My front and rear tires are 235/45/17 - Michelin Pilot Precceda, my brake pads are Jurid - all rotors and calipers are stock.

I am quite sure that stock brake rotor & pad should give you sufficient bite & stopping bearing in mind that the same e39 530i were also used in Germany's autobahn. BMW engineers would have taken into consideration the high speed for autobahn used during the design & development stage.

From what you have written above, you mentioned your brake rotors and calipers are stock. The question is, are the said items still in good conditions i.e. thickness of rotors, ete etc. Calipers needs servicing to ensure full functionality and brake fluid also needs replacement once a year. Instead of Jurid pads, you should be using original BMW pads.

Sign up for advanced driving courses. Cheaper than a set of tyres, or brakes. Will make you a whole lot more confident and safer driver.. and faster too

Took mine in 1999... My best upgrade ever.

Good one, havent thought that before. Any recommendations of the course instructors ? maybe contact no. :100:

Took my UDM for top speed test, reached 215 kmh but started to feel sliding sideways from 190 kmh onwards, maybe wind effects idk. Any e39 530s owners wants to comment their top speed and feel ?

Done 250km/h in mine and feels solid, just a bit scared only hehe

Did 245 kmh and still ok. Maybe you should check your suspension system...

Mine tops at 210 kmh ... solid.
Chk your suspension setup .

Difference in balls sizes.. :4:

Your title says "confidence upgrade" but your content indicated that you need more braking power..

Looks like your lack in high speed confidence and blaming the brakes..

As long as you can brake until ABS kicks in, that's good and healthy brake. And so some are putting double servo, bigger diameter brake disc rotor and more pots calipers, which only assist the driver so less force needed when stepping on the brake and shorten the time to trigger kicks in of ABS by milliseconds. The car is still limited to the size of the tyre-tarmac contact patch.

Tyre that's engineered for good braking in the dry has terrible wet performance because they increase the contact surface by trading off with lesser water drainage channels.

Those who put big rotor at the front sacrifices rear passenger comfort because a slight tap on the brake pedal will lift the rear and do it repeatedly can cause the rear passenger to puke.. :puke:

Did 235km/h on the way up to Penang. Car feels solid. Must be your suspension.

I drive once 215km/h before to chase an Evo, the ori break system still working well.
