Today..out after lunch came to the car..started..POP then smoke whiteish blueish..then oil smell..,engine would idle roughly..but could not throttle up..and the best..Brake pedal is hard..Any ideas ??CheersDom

Vacuum line to brake booster gone POP?

Happened to me once but that was a hose to the ICV... Finished wiping the engine bay, started car, then there was a flash, a loud bang and smoke (in that order) was coming from the engine bay. Idling immediately went crap and the engine was misfiring and popping. Cannot rev at all. Shite!!!! Checked all hoses that I could easily see, no problems. Later found the bloody vacuum hose to the ICV was out (buried under the inlet manifold - who was the smart engineer who decided to bury the ICV under there?). Reconnected the hose and everything went back to normal. Scared me like hell.

FLash....you had hit it the nail...on the head....the *$#%! ISCV...hose popped out
and so did my heart for a moment missing a beat. for some reason..the hose
popped when i cranked to start. The break pedal would not budge..so that should
have been a tale tale sign that the vacumn was leaking or none of it in the
system,...I mean pop then weird sounds plus rough idling and to add to the effect..this blue white smoke....Ayooo....actually lah..what a place to put the ISCV
under the intake plenum..hmmm..plus..i had to tow my car back....
Oh well could have been worse i guess....

Thanks all..

Cheers

Another thing... if your car has erratic idling, even after addressing the vacuum hoses, MAF, etc, etc, check your ignition coils. I had one coil gone bad, cracked big time and blew out my ECU. Checked the remaining 5 coils and all were showing signs of cracking (had micro cracks on the casing). So I gotta replace all 6 coils and the bloody ECU... RM2.5k+ just blew away (sob, there goes my 17" wheels, well, delayed). Now my idling is rock solid.

Now I gotta find a wiring diagram for the ECU and see if I can repair the bad ECU. Hope only an easily replaceable component has gone bad.

same problem

FLash....you're a genius..again i too have the same prob.
And am begining to think so too..how much is a set of coil packs ?

Thanks...

p.s. what would cause the ecu to blow ?

But make sure you have addressed the other issues first... I had changed almost everything, MAF, injectors, hoses, ICV, etc, etc to address the idling issue but it still remained. I resigned to my faith and lived with the idling issue until one of the coils went and took the ECU along with it. Maybe a flashback of current shorted out a component in the ECU when the coil blew apart (yes, it actually blew apart and spewed its innards out). After I changed all the coils and the ECU, presto, steady idling.

Ok, price?

Ignition coil (damn, I got myself the Bremis instead of Bosch, forgot the Bremis had issues too), each (without the suppresors) - about RM150.

Suppresors - about RM35. Hee, I reused my suppresors since they are still ok.

ECU? Damn, mine is CBU and quite rare in Msia - RM1,350. Kenot use the CKD ones.

Veli easy to DIY....:D

done all of that..maf plugs..etc.etc...no joy...
th prices you qoted are they used or new ?...

hope when i change those...it will be ok

Prices are for new.

But then again, not sure if there is a way to check if the coils are on the brink... in my case it was easy, the cracks were very visible.
