I was wondering whether should I change my E36 328i from AUTO to MANUAL.Is it cheaper to get the transmission brand new or the half cut one? Thanks

oh yeah!

preferebly the shop near subang airport area :)
normally to change the transmission, i have to replace everything??(gearbox, add clutch)
and how much will it cost? (half-cut)

thanks
Cheers :)

Most of the stuff you should get if you purchase the manual gearbox. Just double check to see what parts come with your purchase and get the missing ones.

Most importantly you'll need these items.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=CD12&mospid=47447&hg=35&fg=05 (Clutch pedal and brake pedal. Manual brake pedal is smaller compared to auto)
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=CD12&mospid=47447&hg=21&fg=10 (Clutch pump etc.)

You'll also need the driveshaft, because the manual gearbox is shorter (or was it longer, I forgot :p). Also the clutch, flywheel and rear diff as well.

Might have missed something out so other sifus please help correct ya.

If you're interested I can get you in touch with someone who will be doing a manual conversion soon at a reputable shop. The gearbox he is getting is the original manual ZF gearbox for 328i. I think there's a few sets available soon sometime this month.

thanks there loafer :)
any idea how much does it cost for the whole thing? :)
I'm not the one who's paying but...
hehee u know la orang tua (my dad) he wants to know the price :)

For the ZF one be prepared to pay anything between RM7k - 8K. It'll come complete with everything you'll need.

If you source everything yourself you could probably get it much cheaper but don't hope to find a manual 328i ZF gearbox in any of the chopshops in Malaysia. Also bear in mind that if you use the 328i gearbox a brand new clutch costs around RM1.3k-ish.

Alternatives you can hope on is the 325i manual gearbox (Getrag 220) or if you're lucky enough you can get the M3 5-speed gearbox as well.

I did my manual conversion complete with everything for around RM5k including workmanship. The gearbox is from a 325i and I'm using 3.15 (non-LSD) rear diff. My ride is a 328i.

Make sure you look around first before committing. Who knows you might find a good deal somewhere. :)

thanks for the info :)
