Salam and good day all,I'm currently thinking of changing aging parts in my 11 years old car which was bought almost 2 weeks ago. Just wondering, for my rear axle+sub-frame bushings/mountings, I seriously can't tell whether all the bushings and mountings are due for replacements. However due to their age, I'm seriously considering to replace them all just as preventive measures. The problem is my pocket is not that big, and the mileage is considerably low for the bushings/mountings to fail. Therefore i need to prioritize the parts to be replaced. Which one should i change first? or should i change all?item 2,4,7,9 in the figure 1 below:

I usually save enough to change everything at one time. To me, changing only bits of the bushing don't give me the satisfaction compared to riding on a completely all new bushing.

i see, what's the life span/life expectancy of the bushings? is it time base or mileage base?

those are the your main rear subframe, track rod and anti roll bar bushes.these need not be replaced unless your car is really old perhaps over 15 years and if they were subjected to contamination by oil and if you drive like crazee that you thrash the car over pot holes and every road irregularities and you take turns like F1 cars do.anything that stresses the bushes will accelerate wear.if you do not have any driveability issues or knocking and unwanted noises, then leave them be.

Once you take those assembly off, better change all of it rather than having to do it a few times and pay for the labour again and again. I did it for my E46 N42....really satisfied

how much is such a job on the E46?

For rear axle, changed 3 pairs of bushing and rubber mountings but need to check back the receipts for the exact parts. Labour paid was RM300 (for taking out the rear axle and changing the wheel bearings)....bushings plus rear wheel bearings cost around RM450 ++ (Munich Auto). 328 parts will cost more I suppose....

I wouldn't change any of the above until car couldn't go straight or got noise. Those bushings are not life endangering components. Some of those bushes are designed to share load, so if you don't replace the entire set at one go, the remaining old bushes will suffer accelerated wear.

BMW maintenance is not expensive if you know what you should spend and what should not spend on. Those rubber bushing components are a lot lasting compare to your alternator, aircond compressor, cooling system, ignition coil, O2 sensors, vanos sensor, valvetronic motor, transmission components and the list goes on and bill can easily shoot up to 5 figure.. get ready.

Thanks all for the input. Decided not to change them at the moment as all still feels solid. Perhaps the previous driver did not trash the car that much. The prev owner is a lady btw.
