Hi guys, Need some help here... Can anyone tell me roughly how much is the complete half cut for a 2.5 24v and a 2.5 24v Vanos? I am just doing some research to see what are my options with the budget constrains that I have. What's the price difference like? Thanks B)

That 20 really put me off !!! :p
nolah...
:D

just kidding la... :)

M50 Non Vanos engine tranges from 4-5K with proper documents. For JPJ inspection.
DME...RM800-RM1.5k

workmanship...ranges oso from RM1.8k to 5K depends on what mods you do.

figure out from there lor.. :)

Be prepare for 6K for half cut (if you are lucky), 2k for labor (mechanic is your close friend) ...plus gedebuk-gedebak maybe another 2k...

Then you will have nice smooth & powerful 525 vanos.. :nyehehe: :nyehehe:

mnk shud give a FR on his transplant

2.5 NV ranges 4k-6k
2.5V ranges 5k-8k

price depends on the gearbox, if japan/hk/spore/uk all different prices

also there's more to just plunking the engine in......can't give details on what i heard, prefer it comes from those who dunnit before.....

goodluck

Very interesting topic, may those who have experiance on tht come out and lets share the knowledge...

This sounds reasonable :D

Any jalan on the JPJ document, that can stay at 520 with 2.0cc instead of the 2.5cc engine ?

So my E34 can go for 2.5V with Vanos ? Wat happen to my old engine .....don't tell me the price already included the trade-in ?

Is it worth spending that extra for the Vanos? My intention of upgrading is not so much to take it to the track or be a speed demon on the road...

I just want something higher than my m20b20 right now. It's soo sluggish, even with a manual gearbox...

BTW, thank you so much for your feedback and advice so far... Day by day I am getting clearer of my options...

Went for TT last weekend... One other option is to sell my car and get a 525i.... hmmmm..... B)

I also am stuck with choosing between the vanos and non vanos 2.5 M50 ... still deciding with which to get .. hehehe .. either buy a 520 cheap cheap and sendiri transplant or just buy an ori 525 and live happily ever after :nyehehe:

you won't live happily ever after........ :p

wanting more power will eat at you day by day.....

i give you 6 months ,then you'll start to look at increasing power of the 525i...... :D

some people prefer Vanos, some don't
some people want to track the car, some don't
but most important of all is to understand the fundamentals of why bmw made the vanos in the first place.....

bro...best bang for the buck.............plonk in m20b25.reuse the rest of the peripherals...rm3k...instant 20-30bhp.... :D

if your car is original manual, then put in a M50B25 and if it's a auto, M50B25TU engine..

my knowledge..

I doubt there is a diff in price between a 525i Vanos and on Vanos.

Power wise, you expect the M50B25TU to be more responsive but not by a hugh margin. It does develops its 192 german stallions at a earlier rpm.

Not factoring in your manual shift into consideration....

A half cut 525i should set you back around RM4-5K...workmanship prob would cost you another 5K (the very most) and you need to factor in some minor repairs as well.

The problem that u might face are some of the sensors may not be working...but no big deal if its non essential.

Still can't decide? You already tested quite many cars and have done the math. :D
