I was in Mahindra and Mahindra Design Centre when they launch the car in New Delhi motor show. Unbelievable cost management !

This was mentioned in today's NST Cars, Bikes and Trucks... Apparently the wheel bearings are good for up to 45mph (70ish km/h) only to save cost, any higher speed will accelerate wear and tear.

OMG!!! The wheels looks like it came from a roller skate! This is a no frills car - no aircon, no radio/cd, and god knows what........? Kancil will be a limo compared to this.

If tata were to sell this in Malaysia, it will give Kancil a run for the money.
However, it should not be allowed on the Highway.. Too slow..

there are two takes to this.

India is a over populated country - with poor transportation system - the poorly planned cities were never designed for high traffic volume. currently two-wheelers(as they are affectionately called in India) already cause a great menace to the traffic conditions in the larger cities. NANO - apparently was made to alleviate the burden put on two wheelers(families of 3/4 on a two wheeler) + create a safer alternative to the poorer masses.

so on one hand - it is a safer alternative to two-wheelers (dont worry lah - in the over crowded streets of the larger Indian cities - it would be a dream come true to go beyond 70 km/h) but i reckon it would only create greater chaos and pollution.

once again a great feat to make a car and sell it under RM 8350 at today's rates. i am presuming that there are making some amount of profits out of this RM 8350.
