Before I go to the workshop, anyone here can further enlighten me on the problem?1. My right mirror can 'close' but mirror cannot be turned up or down from switch inside car2. My left mirror is dead, Does not even 'close'.Is this just an electrical/wiring problem? Thanks.

Do you mean you have folding problem?

It could be a problem with the motor wormgear wearing off. It is a common problem with X5 folding mirror.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, its a folding problem in the left mirror. The right mirror can fold BUT ... (please see original post)

To check whether it is a wiring problem,

1. try to fold and unfold the mirror - check whether got motor "sound" on left and left mirror.
2. on left and right mirror - try "up", "down", "left" and "right" - check whether got motor "sound" on left and left mirror.

if got motor sound - you can confirm it is not the wiring problem.

however, if got sound but mirror not folding, then possible wormgear problem.

for mirror not moving U,D,L or R, most probably loose connection at connector.

If the motor stays silent and no electrical wiring issues, can the motor be fixed for scrapped for a new one? Can you recommend anyone for the job? Official dealerships will of course say everything needs changing. My dad's E65 has the same issue (right side mirror will not fold or unfold but U,D,L&R functions work). Can you advice Sifu?

I think replacing the motor is possible as I have done it for a X5 before.
However, not sure about Z4 motor coz never done it before.

Sifu Jarance is the worm gear hard to source in KL? I might look for someone to open up my dad's E65 door mirror console to take a look? Any advice on who might be able to to do it in Klang Valley (ie electrical specialist for bimmer)?

As far I know, you cant get the wormgear in KL. I got it from a supplier from Taiwan. however, you can try RC hobby shop.

Not sure anybody who want to repair at the wormgear level cos not much they can make for it. They usually will ask you to change the whole unit for the folding mirror.

DIY is the best option.
