Love this car so much...but I dun know is it a wise and suitable choice. Juz joined...and my 1st post would like to get some comment and guide from U guys. Softtop hard to maintain? Getting the car use only in da weekend is like kinda waste...I guess, so I need some comment from U guys here.I love da attaction while driving this car....LoL. I thought maybe if I replace the softtop to a hardtop? And will that cost alot??Comments and Suggestion is much appreciated......

i do not know which Z model you pointing exactly so ill just say how it is with my Z..

1) Softtop
I cant say a thing about maintenance simply because i never had any, and i highly recommending to buy car with manual rather with automatic softtop. Electric motor cost is approx 10K if it dies, while manual cost nothing and i can put it back literally within 3 seconds, what automatic cant.

2) Softtop replacement
Well..if you willing to invest in to that direction, you can always have both, instead of just one.

As for daily use...why not..it can be used long as trunk volume doesn't impact your daily needs or number of seats impacting space you actually need for other people (family?). Other than that is just fine for daily use, and every engine installed in Z's is way over its limits, considering car weight so engine will roll just fine if not way way longer than other models. If you decide to use it as a daily vehicle, then think about making ground clearance a bit higher than it is by default. Malaysia bumpers are some nasty animals, or should i say, those who installed it, hate themselves and from afternoon they hate rest of the world. That's how i see 'designers' of malaysian roads bumpers :) . So, in case of daily use, increase ground clearance. That's all i can say at this point. I hope it helps.

i echo ecco's opinion...y not a 2 door coupe/roadster suffice as DD...i DD my e30 coupe (dif league but should be same analogy)
if you job doesn't include ferrying guest around, you dun really need the extra boot space/door...

With normal sedan, everyone wants to tumpang. With 2-seater, you can give the "no space lar" excuse...haha

Haven seen Z4s on the roads pretty much more than the Z3 actually. Testament to how these cars get used by their owners - daily rides with no fuss! :top:

I think Z models are as just reliable as any other bmw...give it a go bro...bTW please make in intro in the newbie section if u havent done so....cheers mate

Just get it, since you mentioned love it so much! If not after few years you regret ! What's the point then.

Hehe, still up to one's preference bro. Yes, it could also be otherwise..

I have had my Z4 for a month now and I used it as a daily driver, ad I do run around a lot. In the short one month, I have gone up Frasers Hill and down to JB. I am and old man with a bad back which limits my movements. My ride is rock hard.

I am happy to report that it is OK as a daily driver. I have no problems with the mechanics as well as the soft-top given that it is the rainy season. My complaint is the bearable rock hard ride and the need to have more space on he sides when parking. This is because of my back and I need to swing the doors real wide for me to get in and out. This is made worse because of the high thigh support of the sports seats.

If you have my problem, my sincrere advise is to opt for the comfort seats.

Bro Saat, can Z4 be ordered with comfort seats? Thought there wasn't enough space for the recline? One of the factors that put me off the E89 was the fact that comfort seats were not an available option locally?

The E85 has two types of seats, a Basic Seat and Sports Seats. You can tell a Basic seat from a Sports seat from outside the car by head rest. The Basic seats has "fat" adjustable head rest and the Sports seat has non-adjustable head rest that is one piece or integral with the seat back. The Basic seats are geared towards comfort with thicker bottom and back cushions and less prominent side and shoulder bolsters than the Sport seats. Additionally the sports seats come with adjustable thigh support. I was broadly refering to the Basic seats as "comfort" seats.

BMW has greatly improved the seats on the E89. The one and only Basic seat being offered y are way more comfortable and luxurious than the Basic seat of the E85 and yet has a bit more side support.

I also just discovered that my car was fitted with the MSports suspension which is setup with shorter and stiffer springs, firmer dampers and beefier sway bars. This results in a 0.6" lower ride height and a much harder ride.

Thanks bro Saat - that's exactly the concern. The E89 sdrive35is which I was eyeing had Sports Seats, but I hated the non-adjustable headrest - it was at a weird angle for my big fat head, I guess. Never felt comfy with it :(. The basic seats were in fact, better, but wasn't an 'allowable' option, and neither were Comfort Seats with the adjustable shoulder support.

Your M-sports would SUPER FIRM up the ride indeed! In fact, I think from all accounts, the E85 was rated HIGHER in handling and chassis feel than the E89!

Thanks again :)
