Hi fellow X-Men Beemers. I am not a newbie but recently acquired a 2002 E53 X5 3.0L - Japan spec. It comes with a wide screen and equipped with NAV. I am missing the map CD/DVD. I was told by AB that my NAV just need the CD/DVD Map for it to work. Anyone can help on acquiring the CD/DVD? By the way I still have my E39 "clone M5" - reason for not being a newbie.

Hi all, as a Newbe this is my first post so appologies for being so forward in asking for advice so soon. I have just aquired a UK spec 2002/3 X5 4.4L and based on the above I am wondering if the nav unit will work if I can get the right Mal map CD. If not do I need to change the unit in the rear?
Thanks

The Malaysia Map CD will work in your car no problem. My car is a UK 2003 E39 and it works fine for me.

hi shama, if your X5 is japan spec the navigation will not work in malaysia or any other country other than japan as in japan due to high building they used a different gps method that rely on lamp post ( with affix transponder ).

for the GPS to work in malaysia you need to change entire head unit / cic / i drive to UK / EU / Malaysia spec .

i did this in my jpn e60 before few years back. pro of cuz is integrated system, con is its expensive compare with few hundred buck garmin.

Hi Dark1234,

I am planning to get a X5 XDrive40d 2010 UK Spec. Do you know where can i get Malaysian map for CIC ?

for CIC , you need to get the DVD for 2011 , try quil or auto bavaria, but its not cheap ( 1 ~ 2k)

i read somewhere there is 2012 map out soon in feb/march
so maybe u tahan till then only buy the map.

Thanks Dark1234,

Anyway I would like to know about your thoughts on the X6 and X5 Diesels. A lot of the grey importers (even the large and established ones) are bringing in the XDrive35d and the XDrive40d and they are priced quite reasonably. MSpeed says that its Ok with as long that you service every 5K instead of the 10K usual service. Although I have researched about the these diesel specs(pros and cons) what is your thoughts on purchasing such cars ? The market seems to be flooding with them

Sorry Dark1234, I believe mine is the CCC and not the CIC. Where can I get the map updated for CCC for a british spec car ?

I am driving 520d . Diesel are good , the super touque and fuel saving , mine cn do 1100km per full tank .however the imported version have diesel particle filter installed which put local diesel does not have as BMW took it out . So you may have to do the same. On why importer are bringing x35d and x40d is because uk most car are going diesel due to reliability and fuel saving Thats why 520d is uk best selling 5 series .

I read in other forums and found this CIC conversion very interesting.

You did your conversion to CIC a few years back? Did you do it DIY or you send it to some specialist center for the conversion? And did you buy those parts on your own or it was a complete package conversion? and how much did it cost?
