Friends,Any leads appreciated.Problem: The windscreen on my E38 fogs up when the a/c is on. This happens usually on cold days, rainy days. When the car is moving, the fog clears up and returns when the car is slow or stationery. It generally does not build up alot on hot days. Here's a photo....

What can this be?1. Faulty a/c switch i.e. upper vent blowing to windscreen?2. Windscreen replacement not done properly does wind entering car from beneath??3. Any other thoughts and how to remedy? Thanks!

That's usually caused by the aircond blowing up towards the windscreen. Happens la with old cars cause the aircond vents meant to demist the front windscreen can no longer close properly. Not sure if there's an easy fix for it but it'll probably mean removing the dashboard to replace the vent and miscellaneous items there.

One of two things could cause the fogging:
(1) Air cond is set to blow cold air to the windscreen - try switching the climate control from Auto to manual, leaving the air distribution control to blow air only at face level. That usually will solve the problem. But if after switching to manual air distribution and fogging still occurs, put your hand over the dash-top vents that blow air to the windscreen - it there's still a gust of air coming out of it, then your air distribution flap is probably busted. This, unfortunately, will need the whole dashboard to come out in order to fix it.

(2) The rubber seal along the top edge of the bonnet is not sealing properly, allowing the hot air from the engine (blown back by the radiator fans) to blow against the cold windscreen, causing the fogging. Reason why I think it could be this is because you mentioned that the fog goes away once you start driving. As passing air from around the car cools the hot engine bay air before it hits the windscreen when you drive, the fog doesn't get a chance to form.

Test it out and let us know how it goes. Good luck, bro!

Wow. That's some pretty bad fogging Serjit. :top:

Serjit has a lot of body heat because of his body mass and plus another body mass, hence the major fogging.:34:

Windscreen demister not shut properly. Most probably due to the aging seal. Actually my E90 has too, but it only happens on cold evening. Mine is due to aircond too cold and the fogging only appear at the mid section of the windscreen when there's an air circulation vent on the central dash which can't be shut.

Aduhh bhai if you are steamy hot & horny pls do it some where else. Jangan kasi kotor itu brand new leather lar.
I can provide you place for threesome. Sharing is caring:love:

Thanks AB. I think I have the same exact prob as yours. I dont intend to remove the dash so will live with it. It's only for like 1 or 2 mins then goes off. So no real biggy. Will fix it next time I remove dash.
