Hi all,I've been itching to change the 16 inchers on my 320i to 17 inchers, everyone's E90 seems nicer looking than mine :-( So I got a quote from AB & for 17inch rims + the run-flats and it cost 13k!!! And no trade in of old rims accepted. I'm sure there's a cheaper place to change to original BMW 17 inch rims, anyone has any advice? Also, is it true that I must change it at AB in order to avoid warranty voiding or affecting the tyre inflation sensor? Thanks.

No such thing Chris. There is no tire sensor, the RFT monitor is based on the DSC. There are loads of people who whave swapped out their ori rims. Trading inyour 16 incher will be a problem though. There are a few people with 17 in looking to upgrade here in the forum, so reach out to them. I think E46 is looking to upgrd from 17 to 18.

Bro GHS, someone here is keen for the 17"....

Bro Chris, cheap sale from GHS....

Toyota is very strict.. once rim is change, especially to bigger size, it will automatically void the warranty for certain relevant components from bearing, bushes, suspension, diff box, drive terrain and gear box.

E90 if u were to look at the recommended tyre pressure label at the driver's door steps towards the b-pillar, and the good news is.... is up to 19" !! meaning, they anticipate 19" on the E90 but when u do warranty claim having 3rd party rims on the car, keep ur finger cross la as you may be lucky enough to get away with it..

Or if u are kiasi like me, one more method. Keep the OEM wheels and pasang balik whenever u want to do warranty claim.. :stupid: or at every 25k km service interval :stupid: :stupid: :D

Yea, can consider my set of staggered 161's. I'll let it go reasonably priced, but I have to likely do the swap in SG tho. Interested in a road trip down south?

Hi everyone,

GHS, thanks very very much for the offer. But I forgot to mention that I can only afford to change it at mid year (after getting my bonus :)) so I wouldn't be able to fork out 3k at the moment. I'm just getting quotes and ideas at the moment. But think I see what Danc means about the tyre sensor, I just read somewhere that our E90's measure the rolling radius of the tyres to detect whether its losing pressure or not via a sensor at the tyre valve. I'll catch up with everyone again when I'm able to "show the money"!

What about external tyre & rim shops, anyone knows a place in PJ/KL that sells & can competently install ori BMW rims?

Chris

chris1: no probs, I can wait (provided it's not sold by then) ;)

Bros..sorry to steal the thread..
Assuming we know that tire flat is quite a common happening, and 1 will cost RM1600 if you just get a screw from anywhere suddenly... and the sales man assure me this way: you can always "tampal" ur run flat tire (for instant after kena screw) and it will still work as normal...is this true?!?

He also said that if i find the run flat tire abit bumpy, i can change them to normal michelins...

now i start to wonder, what is the best Tire Asset Management for E90?
Isit..buy 1 more rims and get a normal tire, then where should i hang it??? Also i must get a tire kit as well.

What is your experience? Thanks.....

is not an issue to "tampal" run flat as I aldy did and it show no problem at all... I think as long as the screw/nail is not too big shld be fine. As for safety purposes, BMW will always advice you to change it.

I'm sure going for normal tires for the next change as u will find the run flat get ur ride even more bumpy when tire thread get thinner... there's aldy few member here with normal tires and repair kit, doesn't seems to have problem with it.

Not hang spare tyre in boot bro.

If you are on non-RFTs, you can get a tyre repair kit for peace of mind.
Do a Google and you should get some results. There are a few options in the market, I recall somebody mentioning that you can get one from the BMW authorized dealers, for about RM600+...

Hello there, can anyone please help to let me know where to get the tyre repair kit?

I already cannot tahan the RFT anymore, its simple not suitable for Malaysia and BMW should notice this problem and rectify it sooner. The RFT is excellent on road holding and especially on wet road but on a normal condition, it rides like a lorry for Malaysian road.

The kit can get from any BMW dealer. It is known that BMW has customised its suspension to cushion or rather neutralised the harsh RFT ride. Does that mean your suspension is not suitable for conventional tubeless tyre?
