I think I can see what you guys mean, especially for the older cars.

Guess if it can prolong the engine life, theres no harm in doing it. Spend more on servicing now, and save more in future by having a healthier engine

Not only for old car even for new car if u want to keep yr longer & to avoid expensive repairs. Last I bought my proton brand new & been changing the oil regularly from beginning. Although the mileage is high, but when u open the oil cap u can see the inner engine still shining. Another thing the performance still good & give u same petrol consumption like new. My 10 yrs old E36 still give me 0.20 to 0.22 cents for town driving & 0.16 to 0.18 cents for highway:top:

Any idea what that is in mpg?

IN Boleh Land, petrol now is RM1.92/litre, so 11l/100km = (11x1.92)/100=21sen and 9l/100km = (9x1.92)/100=17sen.. go Google search: "11l/100km to mpg", u get the answer lio.. easy!

So is the FC good for a 10 year old car? :D

Thanx for the conversion. As for the FC, I think its ok considering I'm driving fast most of time & its auto plus our car is heavier than japs. Not because my car is fast but feel confidence of its handling & stability. Sumore I'm doin sales. So lots of stop & go situation. Another reason for me to maintain it regularly so that I can enjoy the sheer driving pleasure every single minute hehehe:rock:

Guys what service intervals do u practise. Mind sharing with us.

I wonder how many forumers:-

i) Follow strictly the Service Lights
ii) Follow a particular mileage eg 10000km @ 12000km
iii) Follow a particular period Eg 3 moths, 6 months @ 12 months

You may also mention ur model, yr and mileage

Let me start:-

1988 E30 318i (A) (Previous Car) mileage > 200k km

Service Interval : every 5000km @ 4 months ( I followed the mleage more closely)

Oil used : Castrol Magnatec Semi Syn 10w-40
Average annual milaege : 15000km

1995 E36 325i (A) ( Current Car) mileage

for me, 318i e46 year 2000. current mileage 81

used to have it service more or less before 10K or at 10k. Caltex full syn.
recently use castrol sport edge 5-60. planning to change soon at after 9k mileage.

now plan to use only semi oil but change at 5k mileage. feel its better to always use fresh oil rather than use it until 10k. oil is oil. mesti tukar juga tak boleh lama lama.

I have done 4000kms since my last service about 3.5 months ago, so 8000km will probably take me 7 months...so I guess Ill service then ie when my car hits 100000km.
