Hi Sifus, bros and Bimmer Lovers hereI am having a weird and funny gearbox oil leaking symptom on my 2003 E46 318i. I have changed almost all the oil seals the past 2 months from gear selector oil seal, gearbox oil input oil seal to almost all the seals related to engine oil and gearbox oil. But i am still having this weird leaking problem whereby when the UDM is parked overnight not used ( I usually dont drive her on the weekends coz using the family MPV) the UDM will experience leaks and its quite serious like up to 10 to 20 drops looking at the size of the oil pool on the cardboard that i lay under the carriage. But if I were to drive it constantly, the leak stops even if its overnight. Weird eh? Any sifu or bros here experience this problem? Hope to hear some advice and also recommendation of experience workshop that deals with leakage. My current fellow mechanic almost "putus asa" already checking it for me. Hope to hear some advice soon. Thank you all in advance ya....

If you can poste pictures will be helpfull, and you are sure its not engine oil. Yours is N42 (same as mine) so I have gone through all possible leaks in the past 4 years. Torque converter can also be another source of leak

Hi Zeedo
Thanks for the response. Dunno wat pics to post and as far as I m concern its not engine oil coz its gold in color with no sign of stains like used engine oil. You mention the torque converter might possible be the leak source...where about is that part bro?..which part of the car its located? If to repair, whats the cost like?

better ask your mechanic to check the aux pump inside the gearbox. i had similar problem that caused my GB kaput.

Bro Shasall: wow...scary or what? Anyway how to check the aux pump? Does the mechanic need to bring down the gearbox?

First , before you bring to the mechanic .. jack the car up and try to find the trace of the oil . If the oil is coming from the car , somehow you can find the trail .Take ur time to look for it with good torchlight . Once you have some idea where it is coming for , bring to the shop and get the mechanic to check in that area.

If you enter to workshop with blank mind , some shop will chop you by changing the part thats isnt the cause.

When u drive , most of the rubber thingy in the car expands.. so it seal up the gaps. When its cold , it shrink and the oil may seep tru . -at least this is what i could think of when the oil doesnt drop while engine is hot . best of luck bro .
