URGENT: WTB good condition steering rack (E30)

Hi guys,I need to get a good condition (and good price! :wink steering rack for M40 E30 to replace the current one -- as soon as possible. This came about as I took the car to a mechanic today after I had noticed a reddish fluid leaking the last few days. Turns out the leak is power steering fluid and the cause is the rack...Anyone have one to sell? Please pm me or call me anytime at 012 2947845.Thanks in advance guys! :rock:

mine also the same, just top up occasionally
and try buying the fluid tt is anti-leak ones
might be able to help!!

As long as the steering has no knocking sound when negotiating a corner or making a turn, just lepak abt it first!! besides, its really not easy to find and quite EX too

Sometimes its not as bad as it seems. I had the same problem, and just changing the seals wasn't going to enough to last. Its important that the steering rod inside the rack to be "polished" (some phrase like that) as well, only then will the seals last.

Some mechanics will just change the seals, then when it leaks again they will say "kena tukar rack" then quietly refurbish the thing and sell it to someone else at a premium.

However if the rod inside is terribly rusted, then you'll probably have to change the rack.

Yours I presume the M20 metal rack which is serviceable, however for the M40 made of aluminium a different story all together. Average market price for a used rack picking up of late.

just change to E36 rack. shorter ratio and newer XD

i let the kedai potong to do it as i bought it from there...got it for rm450 but then when used it for more than 2 weeks i found a leak so went back to the potong shop and asked him to do it so he quoted rm450 but then i said "ur stuff u do it" for me and after some arguments he agreed to do it for me for free...so i guess the market range would be rm450 for the overhaul

i changed my steering rack quite some time back for a recon one. i think it was $800 bucks but will need to recfm it. only thing with this recon is that you would need to trade in your current leaking rack for the recon one and still pay $800 bucks! guy who does this is somewhere in kepong and all he does is recons.

sorry for digging out old tread just wanna ask wherther a E36 steering rack can fit into e30 m40?or best to get a recon or new one for the m40?
