you're right about the smell..it's something else. when I first got my car it was the first thing I noticed. Over time, the scent didn't seem noticeable anymore. However, after being away from the car for a few days(travel), I returned and found that the smell is still very prevalent. Now when I get into it and find the smell 'missing' , I know it's just my nose.
Btw- it's a SA spec e46 3series.

It's amazing that such a petty topic found its way into the hearts and minds of us folks, the topic of a BMW scent. i was so amazed when i read what some of you had to say because this is EXACTLY what i have been thinking to myself which is "I Love My Car's Scent" !!! It's the first thing that hit me like a strong gust of wind when i viewed my E39 from its previous owner, the scent of a BMW (not scent of a woman). it's just this very distinctive scent that makes you open up your nostrils to take in a little bit more of it than you normally do breathing. and when it 'hits' your brains, it's like you've just come home to where you're always meant to be....

Sometimes, i hit the button on the A/C airflow to direct it to the vents underneath the windscreen and you could get a slight whiff of the unmistakable scent.

I can fully relate to what you guys mean when you described your thoughts and if a scent can be 'shared' just as pictures, shapes or anything tangible can be seen or touched, it would be swell. but a scent is just something that can only be described intricately but cannot be 'drawn' for another to experience....something intangible yet so REAL and that's the scent of a BMW.

I love the scent of my car and i absolutely agree with you Guru when you mentioned our nose gets desensitized to it day in and day out but sometimes, just sometimes when our olfactory has been neutralised by some other substance, or stepping into our car after a few days away or even mere hours and breathing into our system that peculiar scent only a BMW has makes us come alive all over again and we know why we fell in love with the car ever since we stepped into one.

I just cant get enough of it............

I'm going to make a point to get a small jar & fill it with coffee beans. And each time before i get into my 1er, as and when the situation permits, i will sniff in the the small jar of coffee first. U will then appreciate the heavenly smell of your car better. Soothing to the senses but an adrenalin rush to the soul. :D

PS. smoking in the car is a big No No as it will then "kill" the BMW smell.
