This I also want to know. Mine's creaking like an old man :(

Creak as in leather creak ??

Yup there is a lot of annoying sound coming from E36 seat. What i can do most is to adjust the seat....back to front, up to down and high and low until the sound is minimize. Somehow it wouldnt be as quiet as you want it to be.

If it is leather creak = send it for polishing (the seat lah ..) or u can try AMWAY leather polish and do it on ur own .. Did mine .. no more creak ...

Seat creak = identify where the creak comes from - spray some WD40 or silicon. U might want to tighten any nuts and bolts as well.

Hammering sound from the rear? While the car is moving and frequency follows the speed of the car? If that is the case, then it is probably like my ex-E36, which was caused by a tyre problem. In my case, the tyre was not properly sitted on the rims and once it was done done, voila, no noise.

c-sq,

I think your car is trying to tell u u need sport seats :D
hahahaha, abang Affan, nice try.... well at least it is just new seats and not my wallet telling me I need a new ride :p

actually, the sound might not be coming from the seats only. it could be from the doors creaking actually. Mine was creaking, even if you were to reverse the car down a slope, there was some creaking noise at certain angle.

What my mechanic did was to put some special tape a around the door at spots where it comes into contact to the rubber door lining. It eliminated a lot of the sound. I think it is something worth looking into. I am not sure what is the name of the tape. But i think it's from 3M.

Hey guys.. it sound like my old problem... REAR SHOCK TOWER CRACK.. don't panic..

1st. jack the car and look inside the fender or remove the sidewall in your luggage compartment..

2nd. check your rear shock mount, the rubber isolator might give way..

3rd. then check the surrounding... the crack might start with with some corrosion..

4th. remedy: get it weld...

Hopefully, this is not your problem..

Hi all, am pretty new to the forum and I drive an e36 328i. I have gone thru the 'hammering' sound recently and checked the rear abosorbers tower and true enuff, the bolt area cracked almost gave way or shud i say, it already gave way...

Did like what 'Samms' said, went and 'CO2 weld' it. Rides firm and there's no more 'hammering' sounds coming from the back.

Just sharing, Cheerz all! ;)

:dunno:
Talking about these sound, I have the similiar problem that the door will sound like it is not close-tight. Sprayed with silicone on the rubbers but still the sound not 'hilang'. I hate this coz one of my client complained that UDM is not good.

I am interested on the 3M tape, please advise what kind of tape? or any other way to solve this problem. Pls Pls Pls

Creaking seats are a common problem, i read for a UK mag, that BMW has come out with a kit that fixes this problem. Check with Auto Bav if they have got it in. Was not too expensive from what i can remember

It has to do with a small plastic bit in the seat.

I usually drive with my seat in the max low position, no noise. But then my gf borrows it, and raises the seat then the sound comes back. Not really an issue for me.

Good Luck.

Hi aef92,
Glad that you finally found the "hammering" sound and get it repaired.. I have the problem for almost six months and thought it came from a squeking rear absorber.. but then I found it after reading BMW book from BMWCCA..
