hey all who has m42 enigne beating in their BMWs....just wondering what has been done to your engines to realise more power in them....anything accessible in malaysia like chips injectors or throttle body modifications??and no i'm not gonna swap a 6cyl engine to get more power.just gonna keep to the lightweight m42 and see how far it can go.TQ

do anyone really have a dasc here in malaysia?how much it cost i wonder?

i have seen a supercharger kit like dasc n turbo kit..which is better?i mean the stock kit..cause both i see have same 200hp on stock kit..

are you really driving your m42 to the maximum potential? If not, why bother upgrading? m42 is a high rev engine which needs to be pulled up the high rev to reap the benefits of the engine. Like one forumerer here says, drive the car with anger and you will discover it soul. This applies to 4 pot and m42. :)

Else, just put in a chip and upgrade to MAF. If you pocket is deep enough, follow albundy's footstep. :)

the simple engine mods which I have done:

1) open pod filter (with DIY heat shield)
2) SMT6 piggyback ECU
3) Stainless steel air intake pipe(from the AFM to the Throttle body)
4) lightened flywheel (10kg lightened to 7.6kg)

Future mods (wish list)
1) MAF conversion (just need some time to tinker with the MAF since I aledi have the SMT6)
2) Oil cooler
3) Port and Polish
4) 4 throttle conversion

non-engine mods
1) Ireland Engineering antiroll bars (Front and rear)
2) Sparco design strut bars (Front and rear)
3) Custom-made pillowball adjustable front camber plates
4) Custom-made pillowball rear topmount
5) Custom-made lower control arm bracket + PU bushes
6) Titan custom front absorbers
7) Merc C-class rear absorbers (stiffer than Bilstein Sports and cheaper)
8) Apex Springs
9) Door sills and B-pillar foaming (done by KL Auto)

As u can see from my list, don't need to spend much on the engine to have fun, the strenght of the M42 is not outright speed, it's the agility when you're driving up Bukit Tinggi or Ulu Yam... ;)

Btw, maybe we should call for a mini TT with all the M42 kakis.. how many in Klang Valley ah???

for m42, i did the mod which is similair to my m40, replace the injectors with the m50 ones. the only regret is i replace the 2.0L m50 injectors which is not much difference in terms of power but it's gives a smoother ride. Should have gone for 2.5L.

oh I forgot to add that I replaced the stock 3.0 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator with a 3.5 bar FPR from the M50.. Better mid range torque...

thanx everyone for putting some light into this...will be cosidering the injectors and regulators....
