My dad has been complaining about a noticeable ticking sound, so I took over his 2-month old F10 520i to hear for myself. It appears to be an off and on, transient light ticking sound from the engine. The best I can describe, it sounds like water dripping or licking. Weird, never experienced this before. Wondering if any of the si fus here can explain or experienced this? :smokin:Thanks!

Just for everyone's future reference, Ingress has diagnosed the problem as a fault water valve in the intercooling system. Apparently, it's quite common and usually solved by bleeding the valve but in my case, decided to replace it. Parts not available though, will take 2 weeks to arrive from Germany. This should be relevant for the turbo engines only.

JP, mine is a 6 cyclinder but has the same ticking sound. Very faint and does not really bothers me. It's evident only when you reallyconcentrate on locating it. Seems it is from the aircon vents. More like water dripping.

Eh? That sounds like my problem. Well, Ingress informed me it's not a serious problem, won't affect engine but since they know what the problem is, perhaps you should get it fixed while under warranty. Maybe, all is needed is to bleed the thing. Yet again, being a mechanical component, sometimes it just "disappears" by itself.

have filed formal complaint. Not too worried since warranty still some way to go before expiry and ingress has proven to be reliable and upfront all this while. Maybe they have fixed it from my last service. As said, does not bother me at all. Am very happy with the car thus far.

Glad to hear that. In fact, I wasn't too bothered by it coz it didn't affect the functionality nor performance of the car. Thankful I wasn't given the run-around by Ingress (unlike other dealers that tend to tell you they never encountered this problem before as if you're making it up). Ingress knew exactly what was wrong and what has to be done.
