After my incessant complaining abt how "bad" the freeplay of my steering is, my mech installed a set of stabiliser/ dampers to the tie rods, borrowing from a Merc front end design, i think.. The result- id say Is positive!Theres less of the "loosy" feeling at highway speeds, and less trembling when hitting bumps. See pics below. Its not an original e30 design, but for now it seem to work, before i think abt transplanting an e36 rack. Anyone have experience with these too?View attachment 27881View attachment 27882

Looks awesome! How much was the damage to wallet?

Its less than rm800 i think, with the tie rods. Ah foo had already done to his own e30 before. the steering does feel heavier to turn at parking speeds.

Heh heh...I do this because even after refurbishing the rack, the freeplay returns after a few months. No fun driving this ol beemer with bad steering.

Bruce_Z, do you know if this can be done on e46? my steering also a bit flimsy when on hi speed hway..

This seems like a good upgrade, as I have been experincing similar issues, despite fitting in a Recon Steering Rack.

Please do provide furhter feedback if you have any.

Two queries;

1) Is this part easily available ?
2) and who did the installation for you

Many thanks bro.

Well, imho, the solution for the e46 should be different, without needing to resort to this mod. Used to own one e46 325i sometime back. Its was slightly twitchy at high speeds, as its always been "its character?" The "cure" could be in renewing the ctrl arms, bushes, tie rods, steering joint or better still, upgrading to the e46 M3 front end parts.
