I've been trying several methods to use spotify on the I drive on my 328i. Apparently it only works via Bluetooth but still quite flaky. When it is working well, I get the song title details (artist, album and title names) all correctly displayed over the I drive screen. At times, I get all "unknown" for all the song title fields (artist, album and title)

Also I find spotify doesn't work at all via USB port under the arm rest. When I tried playing a title, it played like for 2s and the native songs in my iTunes kicked in. I'm left to play via bluetooth only and unable to keep my iphone charge in journey.

I tried on both my iphone 5 and 5s with iOS 7.1, both yield the same result. My idrive version is nbt without I touch.

Any folks out there have had experience it and have a solution to work around this?

I am steaming my Spotify to iDrive using USB and it's working just fine. The album art is displayed but sometimes not in sync with the song but the music is playing perfectly. However, my iDrive is the CIC version and not the latest NBT. Normally the iPhone music player will play automatically when you first plug in the USB cable. You just have to start Spotify again and click on play to over write iPhone music player. Try that and see if it works.

SPLee, thanks for your input. I reckon had this tested out too while fiddling with the setup earlier. Nevertheless, will give it another shot.

Appreciate those on nbt version to chip in your experience w regards to spotify via Bluetooth and USB here.

I think you can try feedback to Spotify on this matter. Their customer service is pretty good in responding to customer feedback. Hopefully they will include a fix in the next app update. Good luck.

Mine works fine too (CIC version), aside from album art, which is not a big deal

the only problem i have is the steering button doesnt work to skip next song, so I have to either use the idrive knob or the phone. @Splee does yours work?

Same problem here. The steering button to skip songs is not working. The skip button on the player is working though. My album art is not displaying properly. I have feedback to Spotify on this matter and hopefully they will fix it in the next update. By the way how do you find the quality of the Spotify music streaming?

Usually album art is displayed when the iPhone is connected via the USB cable.

i set mine to stream on high quality, its ok, not great but not bad. I also set it to offline sync at extreme quality. Some songs sound great, some songs sound the same as high quality, although I think its because I had changed the setting from high quality after I already had some songs synced and it didnt go and redownload these songs to extreme quality, because all new songs that get downloaded seem to sound great. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify but it didnt seem to make a difference. Or maybe its just some songs are higher quality than others on Spotify ... i dunno

Just had my idrive software updated this morning. Apparently spotify now works via USB. No longer default to iTunes music when I tried playing spotify tracks. Except the artwork freeze to the first track and will not refresh when the next track plays. At least I can charge my phone now while playing spotify over USB albeit a bit flaky still.
