bros,

got it fixed.

my friend is Rm 380 poorer.

thanks
pls share with us who did he call and how they do it

we had called aam, who in turn gave us the number of on Mr.Kenny - 019-6633063.

he basically picked the lock. He had a forcep(small) one, a small picking device and a contraption which looked like a mechanically wound screw driver.

within 15 minutes he picked the trunk lock wherein my friend had left the key.

he was quick, left no marks and we had later tested the lock to make sure it had not sufferred any damage.

damn - 15 minutes work - RM 380 gone. i have a strong feeling he overcharged - but who is to argue on a sunday evening.

Very good, but sorry to inform it's definitely overcharge. This guy must be milking AAM member. Going rate for picking a lock is RM100 or even less if you know the guy. Even if charge double rate for Sunday evening, it's still 50% of what your friend was charge.

My regular locksmith pick my house bathroom lock recently for RM20 only for petrol money! Just get to know any good locksmith. They all know how to pick locks.

hmmnn.. that easy to pick a lock of a e46 ?.. need to use Mr.Bean padlock hinge kit..

My regular locksmith says all locks can be picked. He's even a certified safe-cracker. He showed me he can open a 3-rings brand padlock in about 1 sec. I saw it with my own eyes. :)

Your friend is lucky that the lock was not on "dead-lock", else even if you break the window also cannot open the door.

RM380 is a bit expensive but should be worth it considering that the locksmith have to travel from somewhere. In addition, there is no physical damage to the lock.

BTW, even though you can open the door, you cannot start the engine without the original key.

Fraks! It's that easy to pick an E46 lock? The E46 comes with a plastic key (wallet key) which allows you to open the doors and then in turn, open the boot from within. This might not be relevant but I don't think many of you are aware that the E90s don't come with the wallet key anymore. BMW has discontinued this feature for some reason!

My mechanic told me there is another method......which most BMW mechanics know....very simple.

I think for security reason this kind of information should not be posted on an open forum.

Will appreciate if you all can PM albundy for the method...

The E90 still comes with a plastic key to the doors. There is a key-fob in the glove-box compartment where you can insert the key and start the car using this spare key-fob. So I think the basic idea still remains the same as the E46

No, not that easy. Took the guy (I think its the same guy) more than 1 hour to do mine with all his strange looking tools. And no damage to the lock after that - most impressive. The e46 should be even more complicated. Most difficult - the latest models.

And yeah, its about the going rate to pick a udm lock. No choice, unless you have the bathroom lock picker/certified safe cracker's telephone number handy.

btw, i have a spare key and for some reason it is not working properly i.e. does not seem to unlock my car using the press buttons...do i need to reprogramme it and where can i do that?...fyi, mines a jap recon E46 320i...

Sorry Lee, but I humbly disagree. You can see from the key type that car locks are mostly pin tumbler locks which are the easiest locks to pick and make master keys. That's why so many cars get stolen and also laptops get stolen from boots within seconds.

If that guy takes more than an hour to pick it and still charge the price like that, he's only an expert in one thing - ketuk UDM owners. Not fair for me to put my guy's HP no on open forum. Believe me, there are plenty of good locksmith out there. Just find one for yourself.
