Hi,My E90 320i had lots of creaking and cracking sound from the doors and I was initially thinking that the door panels were somehow loose and something inside the panel was causing it. The sounds get worse when driving over uneven surfaces or when driving off from a dead stop. They sound like pop corn popping to me.I initially wanted to send my car to my longtime ICE installer to try to sound proof the panels but I chanced upon my mechanic and he shared with me that this is a common complaint with E60/5 Series owners. The sound gets worse when you drive over uneven roads or when you move off from a dead stop. However, he said that he has a fix for the 5 Series and asked if I wanted to give it a try. His boss who drive a 525i shared with me that he had to use this solution too and it worked for him and many otherof his customers too.Apparently BMW worldwide is aware of this problem too and the solution actually came from them. It involves using a kind of tape (think of it like cellophane tape, sticky on one side and not sticky on the other, and translucent but not as smooth or slippery on the surface) which is provided only by BMW which is stuck all along the upper door frames of the car from the A to C pillar. I told my mech I would give it a try since I had no other solutions in mind and that I was not entirely convinced that my door panels were the cause anyway. So in 10 mins, the tape was measures and carefully applied on one side of my car, and we took my car out for a test drive...guess what, dead silence from the side with the tape. I was already smiling like a fool.We rushed back to the workshop, applied the tape on the other side of my car, and went out again. Total silence!!! My mech said "Its only now that you are convinced you are driving a BMW right?"....hahahhaha....now my cabin is so quiet I am picking out other small creaks from other areas which honestly even my wife who sits beside me cant hear....the cabin is soooooo silent now.All in all, it cost me RM400, freaking expensive for just tape but I was told that the tape cant be purchased anywhere else except from BMW. I am not sure if thats really true, one might be able to experiment with other types of tape to see if they work at a fraction of the cost (3M products are your best bet), but I am convinced that the method and tape that my workshop used does indeed work flawlessly and because of the translucency and texture (this tape can be applied on any body colour and it will seem to just blend it) of the tape, it is almost not noticeable at all.Not too sure how many of the brothers and sisters here face this issue, but I hope this helps you in finding a solution. Happy Driving!

hmmm my mum's '09 E60 is dead silent, maybe this problem applies to earlier models...

Kevkie, do you mean that the tape is run over & along the weatherproof rubber lining on the door?

My temp solution for door rubber creaks is using a silicon spray over the rubber linings on the door itself and the rubbers on the frame on chassis. Works great for a week or so and then the noise returns. The noise is apparent when it's cold say in the morning & night (sometimes). But the during the hot day it's quiet.

Hi Bimmerholic,

No its not applied/stuck onto the rubber lining. Its stuck onto the metal area of the chassis (what I'd call the door frame) where the rubber contacts the metal. Gosh its really hard to explain. Take a good look at how the rubber makes contact to your chasis, the top most part of the rubber lining on the door will make contact to chasis just below the gap between the door and the chasis. Thats where the friction is coming from.

I will try to take a pic.....gimme a few days. :)

Hi Kevkie, can share the name of your mechanic and his location and tel? My E60 have similar music occasionally.

Sound like teflon tape? If your car is under warranty, bring it back to BMW, they will do it for you.

If you car is not under warranty, cheaper solution. Apply leather seat lotion on the door rubbers, that reduces the friction & it last a couple of months. At least on my car. Anyway, I apply leather seat conditioner every few months, so I make it a habit to wipe the rubber with the cloth which already has lotion on it.

The shop I went to is in JB, Era Maju is the shops name.

I think Vroom325's suggestion may work, may not be a permanent fix but it may still work.

Yes if your car is under warranty, I heard that the dealer will do it for free.

Good luck!

Woh man, RM400 is an expensive one but at least the result gave you the satisfaction. I can understand the sickening noise coming from the doors. This is a known issue for E90's and some other models. Depending on luck, you either get it or not. In my case, l am one of the unlucky one's, some forummers call it the rattling door noise, cricket noise, etc etc. Till today l am still using the cheapo solution until i find time to have the tapes done at AB. Good infor, Kevkie.

Hi Everyone,

I've been asking around and I've been told that 3M's Magic Scotch Tape is the closest (if not actual) thing to what BMW is using to rectify this issue.

Looks like this: Magic Tape

Give it a try, good luck!

I can't find it at Ace or DIY shops. Any idea where we can buy the Magic Tape?

Hey guys,
My friend had done his E60 last month and he gave this stuff a thumb up! I think it's better that we leave it to the pro to do the installation rather than DIY outselves. The price is exactly RM400 and he had done it in Taman Megah if I'm not mistaken. Solved his creaking sound once and for all :top: I'm thinking to do this too... but still have yet to find the time as I am based outstation.
Whoever interested in this so-called Magic Tape, I will try to find the contact and post here soon ok!!!

All

My E90 creaking door noise finally resolved with a Teflon Tape. I was tired of going over to AB and decided to try at QUILL Section 14 which is near my office place. There l met the friendly SA and he explained that this is a well known common problem. The teflon tape is to prevent the door rubber seal rubbing against the smooth surface of the "Rain Guide rail" creating the creaking noise. I am please with the result. No more creakin noise.

If your car is under warranty, you should get it fix instead of outside as the cost is exhorbitant for that teflon tape. if you need my assistance to have this irrating noise fix, drop me a PM and l will guide you to QUILL. :burnout:

This might help.
