Hi all,Have anyone disconnected their battery and reconnect back before? I would to remove the airbag to change my steering column trim...so, if it is safe to do so without removing the battery, then its all good But if the battery needs to be removed, what do I need to reset and what memory would be lost after reconnecting the battery back?Thanks...

I have take out the battery before and reconnect, all ok except the clock and trip meter rset to zero. Chk with fren of mine in AB he say is ok to take out the battery but remember to take out your key it might just lock up the car whne you taking out the bat.

Ade, if you need to disconnect the cable to the air bag, you need to disconnect the battery before you start to do whatever work you need to do to the steering wheel.

The SRS alarm light will come on when you ON the igniton key if the cable to the air bag's cable is disconnected. If the alarm come on, you need to reset it by a modic at your workshop.

Hee hee, and this was learned thru experience on a forummer's car.... :D

Actually, I don't think I need to disconnect the airbag...just want to change the trim on the steering.

If you can change the trim without disconnect the airbag's cable, then you do not need to disconnect the battery. :eek:k:

Let me put it this way...

Removing the battery is only a minute job...

Once you remove the battery, it is safe to work on the car. Should you accidentally short somethings, you don't end up with the airbar blown in your face. (Not that it would).

or having the SRS alarm registered if the cable is accidentally disconnect from the airbag..

I think taking the precaution of removing the battery terminals is a safe bet.. Whether you want to disconnect the airbag cable from the steering wheel solely depend on you because there is no power to the monitoring system.

Ok lo...since disconnecting the battery won't affect the on-board memory etc....i will disconnect it..

Thanks jarance..
