RON95 Vs RON99

My car is E63 2007 model. N52 engine RON91-98. I have been using RON95 for 3years now. No issues, engine working fine!

As fuel price is down decided to give RON99 a try. Filled up Shell Vracing and gave it a run. To my surprise there is no difference. This fuel being RON99, expected an appreciable diff in accleration from RON95!

Could the knock sensor be faulty and not making the necessary ignition reschedule?

After testing Ron 99 for more than week,have decided its not worth the price. Will use Ron97 for now & Ron95 should fuel price gets back to previous cost!

If i remember correctly, it will take time for the new engine to learn the new fuel mixture. a week or 2 might not provide a satisfactory result. but on my ride, the effect is instant. better acceleration, smoother engine. i normally fill higher RON if i were to travel on the hiway for a prolonged period.

Yup. Perhaps there is an issue with the sensor.

Waiting for MCO to be over. Will be doing some preventive maintenance. Will have the sensor checked out.

BTW, just asking. Is it possible to wind back mileage on BMWs! If that is possible,then is it possible to retrieve original figures ?

Some workshops already open. Can check with ur normal mech if they r opened.

Yup, most (not all) car dealers or even individual sellers alter the mileage in the hope it will get them higher selling price. Yes its possible to retrieve it. If the car is sold thru a local authorized dealer (AB, Quill, Wearnes etc.) they will have its service records. You may want to check with them on the mileage. Did that before. Secondly, you may check thru a BMW approved system maintenance software that most independent workshop use like ISTA+. INPA etc. it reads the ECU and it will reveal its true mileage.

I have been using Ron 95 on my E38 ever since I bought it 4 years ago and before that for nearly 7 years on my E32. No issue whatsoever. However, on long distance journey, I have tried Ron 97 on the E32 and noticed considerable improvement on economy and performance. I notici too that with Shell, I get good performance but not so good in economy. The same goes to Esso and Caltex. Petron surrprisingly give good overall performance and economy even with Ron 95, just my experience.

I did try Ron97 sometime back. Did not find much performance difference. Urban fc improved. Apart from that nothing to shout about. For now since Ron 97 price is low,will use this.

Price diff on higher RON,like Shell Vracing Ron99, is to high. With no performance improvement I feel this fuel is not worth the price!

I agree with you. I also only use in on highway drives and i do feel an immediate difference with the ShellVracing fuel
