I know it's like a taboo and asking to get shot discussing replica rims here but is it that dangerously bad switching to rep rims? my tyre is up for replacement soon, hence i'm also thinking of switching to a new set of rims to give the car that fresh new look. problem is, second ori staggered 46 rims is hard to come by, and a brand new ori set costs a bomb. there are not that many nice sporty looking choices of ori rims for 46 as compared to say e39 as there's no 46 4door m3 (can't shove those m3 rims into 46 sedan). i paid a visit to sunway wheel shop last weekend is some of them rep wheels are just sweet. was asking the guy there is it dangerous to use those rims and he of coz (being the salesmen) gave me that sales pitch that 70% cars on the road is on rep rims and that rep nowadays is made of quality materials (is this true?). i just need some honest feedback here, probably those with some knowledge in rims manufacturing industry. may be those who ekhem used rep rims before can attest or share their experience if it's bad (caused accident etc) or reasonably ok to use one.

for me either its ori or reps, its all the way we use it bro...if hentam all the lobang even ori rim oso can dent...for me the important thing is the tyre, if u go for the 18,19,20,21 make sure ur tyre thred r in good shape..if nipis beware of the lobang even the small stone..

Do agree with bro yat325. Be it ori or rep rims, it all depends on how you drive or how hard you push the limits of your ride. Yes ori rims are a premium, but it gives you that peace of mind when it comes to quality. Rep rims on the other hand, gives you the more economical option i.e. affordability. Either way, the tires that wrap the rims plays an important factor too. Drive fast and hit a pothole, be it ori or rep rims, outcome would likely be the same : damaged rims. Perhaps the severity of the damage might differ. Was told or did I read it somewhere, most rims nowadays are forged, but the materials used might and surely differs for ori and reps. My ride been on reps for the past year and no issues so far.

Just my 2 sen.

Agree depends on how you drive ... however

bring along a measuring tape to measure the width of ya replica wheel ..happen to a buddy of mine whom purchase a set of AC type 4 replica and one of his wheels was wider by another 10mm compared to the other 3's ....and he only realized this when he end up buying an ori wheels ( feedup of allignment and tyre wearing off fast and noise issue on the AC type 4 ), which once he removed the tyre's he just measured the width of the wheel and notice this difference ...

TQ cikgu ...

to add more do ask where are these replica's made from ( TAIWAN , CHINA , VIETNAM etc etc ) ...as at times the same brand from 2 different shop varies interms of appreace quality...some edges when ya touch is kindda rought and sharp and some are pretty smooth ...and some when ya see the manufacturing embossment is concaved towards the inner side of the spoke and some would be simply upright on the spoke itself .... so do scout around wisely ....

thanks bro, know i can count on you for good info. saw those rep bbs lm @ sunway and imho it looks a tad thin and flimsy. so u reckon there are diff grades of rep, and those that carry their own brand rather than simply stamping other brands are a better bet, aite?

Go for it... I used replicas before no problem. Any problems just replace one piece at a time. Price is only 1/3rd or less than original. Just be aware and be careful of bad road conditions. People use replicas for all sorts from M bodyparts to headlamps so why not sportrims? These are pics i took at the famous papan shop in Klang. From csl to bbs they have it. I can tell replica from original but it takes a keen eye to know the difference most won't.

do agree with Iceman. another thing to note is the origin of the reps. some made in Taiwan, China etc, but at the same time, there are OEMs (if there are such thing or could it be ori/rep) that are made in Austria or some part of Europe.......

I don't see it as such a big deal. If you can afford it, sure, buy the real thing. Else, I think the replicas are gonna outlast your interest in them.
The only thing I was cautioned against is buying a replica of a forged wheel.

Exactly bro ... there are quality replica wheels that have their own branding and state the manufacturing process in making those wheels ... Go over e46fanatics vendor section you can see a whole host of quality rep wheel. There's nothing wrong using replica but make sure you buy it from a reputable wheel shop. I know quite a few people using replica wheels and so far none have had any problem that i know of ...

As what bro chrix mentioned there's a difference between replica and imitation.

after much searching, i've decided to go for this new shoe:
View attachment 23649

it's second, OEM (i think) with 'germany' stamped. now to find a tayar shop to pasang. Tq all for the advise and info.
