What's the recommended tyre size for 18 inch? My rear is running on 255/35/18 n front is going 235/40/18.. Is it right? Feel funny the front is Thicker than the backCan I use 255/40/18 on my rear tyre also?Need help

Bro,
35 means 35% from 255..your front tires 40% from 235..so i think your rear tires more ticker than front tires..
Correct me of i made mistake..

what car are you driving bro??

Assuming U,re driving an e46, the size should be 225/40 for front tyre and 255/35 for rear. I think 255/40 will have problem of rubbing depending on your offset.

Just look at rim alone, it has its width. Using a tyre smaller then the rim's width will leave your rim vulnerable to scratches will using tyre fatter than the rim, you side wall is not standing straight. Need to look at this before looking into offset. How wide is the rim?

This is an example of OEM E39 18" rim. Check out the tyre recommendation versus rim width. Sorry I don't have offset figure and bore size.. :(

8" rim width use 245 tyres.
9.5" rim width use 275 tyres.

M Parallel spoke II - style 65
5 Series (E39)
8 x 18 Front: 245/40 R18
9.5 x 18 Rear: 275/35 R18

Part number:
- Single wheel, front : 36 11 2 228 950
- Single wheel, rear : 36 11 2 228 960

Some write up here, refer to Measuring Rim Width section. It seems it has something to do with the tyre profile as well..
