My wife wants to replace her 2001 1.6 Waja. Its served us well for the past 9 years plus and has done 160k+ km. Initially she was thinking of the 1.8 Civic which is selling for RM115k. It sells in Langkawi for RM75k. That's RM40k on tax! Now comes the Inspira at RM87k for 1.8 A. Whilst I agree its expensive for a Proton, its almost RM30k savings from the Civic. Having seen the 2.0 Lancer, it doesnt look too bad and the interior is quite spacious. What do you guys think?

If wanna get just go and buy.... By the time u asked the whole world, u won't be getting anything.. Anyway, first few batches are pretty much a badge swap, very little local content..

Thanks for your input.

Sounds like a fix. The Civic is ending its current model range very soon. Expect a replacement next year. And the Inspira is new so expect first year batch hiccups. Good luck hunting. :)

Don't think there'll be much problem with this rebadged Lancer with fully imported parts.

At launch, the Inspira will have about 26% local content at launch, with the aim of raising it to 40% within the next few months and straight up to 65% within a year from the launch date once the local vendors have been fully prepped. It is built at Proton’s MVF plant.

I wonder what constitutes the 26%,

I know they are changing the front and rear bumper.

The engine and gearbox are the same with the Lancer.

What about the enterior, seats etc.

Anyone with inside info?

rims, tyres, suspension is proton tuned, interior I heard is from mitsu... Floor mats maybe local...

26% is in terms of weight, cost or part count, i.e. one engine vs a battery or rubber mat?

The normal local content are the plastic shabby upholstery, seat finishing, carpet, tyre, absorber, etc..

Anyway the Lancer interior also cheapo quality la. The entire rear dash is plastic. :stupid:

What I was told by my friend who work in Proton the local items are

1. Tyres & rim (ugly)
2. Battery, bulbs, head lamp, rear lights and all interior lights excluding speedometer
3. Seats, Carpet, side panel fabric/leather
4. The rear boot lip
5. side window glass
6. interior fabric
7. Side Mirrors
8. Spring and Absorbers
9. Spark Plugs and cables
10. Belting - aircon, alternator

I am worried about the frame and body when it is fully source from local.. the pimples and tong tong sound will come soon.

I just hope they come with a turbo 2.0 manual Proton ... That will be fun.

I doubt Proton is going to invest in much body stamping for the Inspira. It's going to primarily be a CKD operation.

Just booked the 1.8 A Silver today.

Hopefully it serves my wife well for another 10 years as the Waja did.

AUSD 21000 = RM63000, at RM94k we are still paying RM30k extra for the car.
