Guys,Would like to find out more about the 'fixed' type of pretensioner. As most of the e36 owners might have experience. The sound cause by the pretensioer can be rather irritating, if not embarassing. I've heard some ppl using fixed pretensioners. Is that advisable? One would assume that BMW purposely made those pretentioners self adjustable for some reason, right? Would it have any negative effects on the alternators or compressors? Mine is quite loud. Sometimes what i do it just spray some grease on the gears at the alternator. It quitens down for awhile. But after sometime, the sound is back. I guess it doesnt work la  How to hear some advise soon. Kam sia....

Mine is a modified manual pretensioner. Cost only RM160++. Works beautifully but have to adjust when the belt develops some slack. The ori ones 'with absorbers' doesnt even last more than a year...
