Welcome. You'll find plenty of experience here.

What specific areas do you need help in?

Helo..

Welcome..

where r u bro? come to e36 TT every friday.. :D they can sure answer all ur question. hehe~

i was reading through anxious's experience with his 328 this morning and got a shock with what he is spending on his machine. is that a norm?

a 318, 96 would be about 40k?
i have learnt that buying a car with a good maintenance record is essential.

how about maintaining the car? and how much of cash buffer i should have before
deciding on the car?

thanks.

Yes, a well taken care of E36 318i should be around RM40-50K. I got mine at about that budget too. I love E36 since a long time ago.. thats why I buy E36 instead of E46 and furthermore the money save will help me keep my current car in Kuching..

Was lucky, as found a good car.. So far only minor wear and tear repair.. I have spend RM1200 for this..

Now gatal to change bodykit and rims...

To own a BMW do prepare average RM1500 per month or RM18,000 per year..

this include your loan repayment assume RM600, RM200 is for annual insurance and roadtax, RM 300 repairs; RM200 maintainance, RM200 is for racun.. Ohh ya extra RM200 per month for the TT, Club Trips, Events and etcs.

This is just my advice.. others might have more to share

dear geoffrey,

that helps.
yeah im thinking about that kind of loan monthly repayment.

how much will insurance and road tax cost for a year?
is yours a 318? how is the fuel comsumption?

I took 3 years loan only and with 20K downpayment so repayment is higher then RM600.. RM600 is base on RM25K loan for 5 years and downpayment of RM20K

Personally, I would prefer cash buy. Take your time and find a reasonalble E36 with full bodykit and rims of RM25K-30K (year 1993-1995) 318i better if manual. Then take your time to repair it to tip top condition. To bring it back to almost new, RM15K is enough. You will enjoy the fun..

Insurance is about RM850 per year as the insured amount is RM50K
Roadtax is about RM325 per year.

Do remember, it is not a new car, and even it is new, you need to spend $$$ to sayang it.. Prepare RM500 per month for the first 5 months. Initial expense upon getting your car is about RM2000-5000.

When you meet the seller, do ask for the car to be checked by good workshop. If you dont know anyone then go to MSpeed or my regular workshop at Kuchai Lama.

After receive my ride last month, I do agree with many... it is B-Banyak, M-Masuk, W- Workshop. Also BMW = Banyak Makan Wang.

Even now, after all are fixed and done.. sometime I have this feeling of selling it for newer car.

Do think carefully before you buy.. dont rush. Please dont rush. Come for TT and take a ride with our cars and then you can compare when you search.

p.s.
Fuel eco of the 318i is about WAJA's on city drive and cheaper when its on highway (If you drive normally la). My full tank give me 500-600km for RM120

Yes. Geoff got a good car. Do not compromise on service history. I believe Geoff's car was fully serviced at AB.

I know such cars are hard to find but at least the previous owner should have serviced it at a BMW specialist workshop(who normally are ex AB staff). Make sure you get to check the service bills for at least the last 3 yrs so u get a feel of what problems the car might have had. send it to a mech for check up b4 buying.

Also set aside RM3-5k for repairs just in case. Good luck.

Greetings all,
My take on this...
The best place world wide to buy what you want is always at Auction..
I just got my E36 for 22K spent a bit more upgrading (got to have a good stereo and new paint ;) ) but there was a 97 E36 328 for RM33,500 as well at the same time. if you know a bit about cars you can check it out yourself or for RM 100 take along a good Mechanic to look it over.
Rule 1 after buying.. give it a full service and inspection.

after that the UDM is read for fun...
atleast thats my opinion.

Try to get a well maintain E36. Don't be fool with the low mileage record and a lady driver story. Send the car for full inspection before purchase. This can save a lot of money.

After purchase the car try to locate a reliable workshop for maintenance.

Wow...

Thats very tempting RM33K for 1997 328.. is cheap. Value at RM55K still from Bank. E36, I presume 318 for RM22K is also a steal!!! With that price, and RM15K for mod.. You have an almost new car. Thats total RM37K only

I have to agree on this.. low mileage and lady driver is not a security for good buy. You can see if the car got enough TLC.. so if the car you view doesnt look clean or dont feel right.. dont buy.. just skip... Many out there, never rush.

Good advice K.M. Keep up the good work.

UDM, I understand how you feel as I felt the same way before... BIG advice.. dont rush.. please.

Thanks for being so helpful.

TT is technical talk? sorry not very familiar yet.

Do welcome to the home of many E36 www.bimmersclub.com

TT = Tea Tarik, Some call it BT = Burger Time

TT=Teh Tarik
UDM only is a UDM if TLC is given. Lady driver mostly only drives the car and does not "communicate" with the car as men do.
Buying a used BMW can break your bank if you're not careful.
Make sure it has got FULL service history be it at AB or BMW specialist.
Good luck.

Actually, only spent just under 10K and it looks like brand new already.
Will pick it up from the painters tomorrow and post a few choice pics.
Car came with:
5 Speed Manual Gearbox (I love Manuals :p)
Full racing suspension ( bit too hard for Malaysian Roads but lots of fun high speed cornering that leaves the waja's drifting ;) )
17" 5 Spoke Alloy rims ( My favorite bit )
Worn M40 Cam (take the bad with the good).
And Full Black Leather interior.

So for something that spends most of it's time on the highway it serves it's purpose well from the driving I have had so far.

Welcome Amam,

Memang macam ni la kalau beli kereta yang sudah berumur. Boleh beritahu apa harga kereta you?

Cheers
