Has anyone of the M3 owners has the notchy gearbox problems?Ive done a search and people are saying that it is due to the Getrag box that makes it notchy or in other words its the nature of the gearbox. The gear change on my M3 is not smooth feeling a bit clunky and notchy...people said that when it is warm it should shifts better?Ive read some review on pistonhead they are changing the gearbox oil to Synchromax a brand from ROYAL PURPLE RACING and the shifting will be a bit smoother. Can i use other oils or sticking to the BMW recommended oil?Or is it due to the wear and tear on the transmission linkages?

I've only heard good things about the RP Synchromax from the e36 M crowd. I used Redline D4 ATF in my e36 M (ZF 5 speed I believe, not Getrag) and it does feels notchy when it is cold, but goes away after the transmission warms up.

Does yours shifts smoother after the transmission warms up? But at any rate, you can try changing the transmission fluid and see if it helps. Maybe it is time for a replacement anyway :driver:

Yes it becomes smoother when it warms up....maybe i need to change the box oil and see the difference...if it still the same then i might try the royal purple if i get green light from the experts here.

Thanks for sharing

hey guys, newbie here just got a e46 m3 with 6 sp Getrag....im not familiar about any sounds since its pretty much a few days old. But have you tried the RP Synchromax oil, is it proven better/safer than original BMW Tranny Fluids?

Congrats on ur new ride! Do post pics of it here.

I'm on Redline MTL for my 6MT, no issues so far.

Shifts easier after warming up.

Using BMW LT-2 manual trans fluid on my zf 5-sp box...excellent! No prob shifting cold or hot.
