..and here is why..Chris Bangle..no wonder today BMW's looks like puffy Dunkin Donut's, when american designer try to touch bavarian beauty...coincidentally or not, just noticed that every single model i mentioned that I really don't like, seems to be touched by this guy LOL :) .. no wonder i like E85 since it appears to be designed by Anders Warming (Danmark)..it seems that Chris touched conceptual Z9 (OMG) what looks like crippled version of new 6 series...jeeeeezzzzzz..go away from Z..go away .. :) ....ok, anger management therapy over..im feeling goooooood now :)

Z8 is a touch up of same guy i dont like, but bear in mind that 'design' of Z8 is actually Jaguar E-Type, and i literally mean it, just look at pictures and you will see..

..thats why Z8 design is so retro and lovely, and i hardly believe, considering E-Type that Chris had much his fingers in to Z8 'origins'..however, Z8 clearly showing tendency of Chris to keep force some sort of 'bumpy' and 'puffy' rounded BMW outlook, whats ugly..also, new BMW designs totally screwed beautiful menacing looking beam light group and introduced what we see today, some oval, audi like shapes and what not..of course, this is my personal observation and it may be complete rubbish :), but i saw very same thinkering on many other foreign forums..this is return to origins, sharpy-menace-sharky outlook with clean exposure of rounded lighting group without any so unusual oval glass frame seen on honda, toyota, etc.. and sharp lines exposed over curves..thats the boy

Ah yes, the Jag E Type. Now that you mentioned it, the curves does look remarkably similar!

I love the E Type though. Timeless shape. ANd those wire wheels!

But I do agree with your observation Ecc0. Seems like the newer Bimmers are heading towards a new design language, might be quite provocative. Guess it all started from the time the first E65 7 series and E60 5 series came out with Bangle's so-called flame-surfacing.

I am still a big fan of the older shark-nosed BMWs though. :top:

Hmm...I thought Z8 was designed by Henrik Fisker, an American too, and based on the old 1956 BMW 507.

Hmm, Haywire has a point. I did recall reading an article that the Z8 was actually a homage to the 507.

Anyways, nice pics Haywire! :top:

PS: The Fisker guy, same guy who owns Fisker and designed the Fisker Karma? :p

..well..source of inspiration may be 507, however, just simple look over E-type, clearly showing massive similarity with Z8, much much higher than 507..my lil opinion of course :)

The z8 is definitely based on the 507. I had seen these cars in real flesh including the e type and the resemblance between the 507 and z8 is undeniable.

As for me, I thought Chris is genius beyond his time. The concepts he introduced was copied by all including lexus and mercedes. When he was at the helm, BMW sold more cars than ever. A good example is the e60, for the first time BMW's midsize saloon outsold the E class.

It's only now after his departure that I find the newer designs to be a little on the 'safe' side.

..as I said, i do not know really, what were origins or what is Z8 based on (inspiration wise), but all i can say is that amount of details on Z8, literally identical with E-Type talking rather different story, and yes, i saw it both in live (had an opportunity to actually drive E-type)..you can freely say that back part of E-type is copy/paste Z8 back part..at same time, look at 507..not even close to Z8 for that matter..again, i do believe that inspiration was 507..all im saying is that, its a bit weird when i say that im going to introduce new kind of coffe taste called coffeME, while actual thing taste like NesCaffe :) thats all, hehe

Now..i was a little bit free and i made this family similarity tree, and if we ignore BMW logo as a reference, be honest and let me know, what out of this two comparisons, showing more dad-son similarities ..I say, Jaguar E-type is Pa absolutely :)

even though the Z8 was develop to celebrate the 507 and has some similarities like the side sills, it seems from the pictures that Ecc0 posted, the Z8 bears close resemblance to the E-type...

i just like the S62 engine inside the Z8...hehehe

Hahahaha ... yes now that you put the pics as comparison i have to say the Z8 does look remarkably similar to the jag more so on the rear. Am not a fan of Chris Bangle but the e92 is a very sexy car and was done right imo.
