A close source told me this last night. Apparently it goes with the design theme of the 7 and 5, so it looks like a baby version of it. If you like this design, then its worth waiting a few months for it to arrive on our shores.

Hope the cabin interior paint chipping problem will be addressed and electronic parts are more durable.

i thought somwone said 2013 then only available in malaysia.........??? personally i believed should be coming in this year.

If the launch of f10 is any indication, Malaysia should get it around 3 months pronto. From news n speculations thus far, f30 will only be unveiled in Europe end 2011, which technically means we get it by end first quarter 2012

I am skeptical as well but the source confirms it. Lets see if its true in a few months time :).

so what will happen to the prices of E90 then? hmmm

I think the market is already adjusting it's prices because of this news/rumour. So when it actually hits the market, as in the new f30, the prices won't drop that much. A 2005 320 is already going for as low as 130k which only last year will set u back 150k? So perhaps when the new one is out it will drop slightly more.

No statistic to back this up but I tell u Malaysian market is weird!

It was posted in PaulTan's blog on 29th March 2011 that the media received from BMW a press pack on the 3 series reminiscing about the good old days.

"You know a new generation of a BMW car is about to be released when BMW sends out a press pack reminiscing about the good old days. So when we just got an email with a complete history of the BMW 3-Series in mailbox, we knew it was a sign that the brand new F30 3-Series is just around the corner." - PaulTan

Seriously doubt it will be Msia this year.

It will be revealed at the Frankfurt auto show somewhere in Sept/Oct.

"...about to be released..." can mean next week or next year. Its ambiguous.

heard it will have 2L twin turbo engine with 245bhp and 340Nm....badge as 328i ...if it's true... I want one loh!!

They are already using that new engine in the Z4.

Yes, I think the next one will be on the X1 and maybe F10 too.
found out more about it at BMW blog

In an interview for German Automotive Week, BMW confirms that the new four-cylinder TwinPower engine will be powering an extensive range of 1 and 3 Series vehicles. There is no secret anymore that BMW is looking to replace all six-cylinder naturally aspirated engines from their line-up and a new range of four-cylinder engines will be the replacement.
According to BMW, six-cylinder engine will continue to be featured in their vast line-up, a prestigious powerplant for the company. These engines will be equipped with direction injection and turbocharger.
The new N20 four-cylinder engines offers more torque and power, while having lower fuel consumption. The engine will be first used in the new X1 xDrive28i and produces 245 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque (258 lb of torque).
The engine can be matted to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 8-speed automatic transmission.
In the EU test cycle, the BMW X1 xDrive28i runs with 7.9 liters/100 km or 35.7 mpg imp (an improvement of 1.5 liters / 5.7 mpg), has CO2 emissions of 183 g/km (down by 38g).
Closely modelled on the BMW in-line six-cylinder engines, the all-new 2.0-litre engine with all-aluminium crankcase comes with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology features high-performance twin-scroll turbocharging system, High Precision Injection direct petrol injection with innovative solenoid injectors, and the latest further enhanced version of the BMW-patented VALVETRONIC variable valve control system.
A smaller engine, dubbed N13, will follow. The four-cylinder banger will be shared between BMW and MINI models and it has a capacity of 1.6 liters. The power range of the N13 and N20 will vary from 100 to 245 horsepower and the new 1 Series vehicles will make use of both powerplants. We anticipate an entry-level 3 Series from the new generation to be powered by one or more four-cylinder variants.
The North American market will receive the new N20 engine in the 2012 BMW X1 xDrive28i.

On the Z4 its making 258hp and 310NM. Very good figures. I wonder if it needs higher RON petrol to get these figures.

First US model to receive the new N20 2.0 liter four-cylinder TwinPower engine is the 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i. Unveiled on Monday during the press conference at BMW Manhattan, the revised Z4 made its public debut today at the 2011 New York Auto Show.
The 2.0 liter engine found in Z4 sDrive28i combines highpressure direct-injection and BMW’s VALVETRONIC intake control. With 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, it offers more power and torque than BMW’s normally aspirated 3.0-liter inline-6 that it replaces in the Z4 sDrive30i. Maximum output of 240 horsepower is achieved at 5,000 rpm, 1,500 rpm lower than in the normally-aspirated 3.0-liter inline six. The peak torque of 260 lb-ft comes on stream at just 1,250 rpm.
The 4-cylinder engine with its all-aluminum crankcase is lighter and more compact than a 6-cylinder engine of equivalent power. The turbocharger is a twin-scroll system. The exhaust streams leaving the two pairs of cylinders are kept completely separate as they flow through the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger, taking a spiral path to the turbine wheel.
This configuration results in very low exhaust back pressure at low engine rpm, and allows the energy of the exhaust gas pulses to be optimally managed and translated into powerful rotation of the turbine blades, without a delay in throttle response.
The highly-efficient and fairly powerful 4-cylinder will also make its way in other US-bound bimmmers, but no official word on which models will get it first. Our bet goes on the BMW 528i.

Its a pity to lose the legendary smooth inline 6 cylinders BMW is famed for.

I wonder if there is a difference in the US spec Z4 sDrive28i and Euro spec Z4 SDrive28i. Paul reports different output figures from the link 3er posted above.

"The second car in the BMW stables to receive the new N20B20 4-cylinder direct injected turbocharged petrol engine is the BMW Z4, in the sDrive28i model. The first model to get the engine was the BMW X1 xDrive28i.
In the X1, the N20B20 makes 245 horsepower at 5,000rpm and 350Nm of torque from as low as 1,250rpm, which is slightly less horsepower but a whole lot more torque compared to the engine it replaces – the 3.0 liter 6-pot that in “28i” tune makes 258 horses and 310Nm.
We expect the engine to be extended to other BMW models as well – there’s surely going to be an upcoming new 1-Series 128i, the F30 328i and perhaps even the F10 528i will become 4 cylinder powered."

The inline-6 will still be around in twin turbo petrol and diesel versions. They're legendary and still smooth, just more expensive :D
