ello guy's...Im newbie here. Just want to say hello to all bimmers here. Im in the process scout e30 ride and need opinion which one shld i go for manual tranny or auto? What is the important things shld i check before i splash my cash? what shld i do after get my ride?

Hi Muse.

I think it's individual preference regarding auto or manual matter. Some people like manual coz of better pick up and overtaking speed and some prefer auto for the convenience of driving in the traffic jam.

As for me personally, I went for auto for the convenience stated above. But I can still get some overtaking speed from kick down. This strains your engine a bit, so I don't do it often nowadays.

If you're getting M20 models (metal bumper ones), I suggest you check for rust spots thoroughly, especially the flooring.

After getting the car, you should get the wear and tear parts checked and have the timing belt and engine oil changed.

Happy hunting.

tq bro bob for your precious advice. can I know what is the cost of changing auto gearbox and manual gearbox? where is the best workshop to do services and check the wear and tear parts?

No prob bro.

I've changed my auto gearbox before (auto to auto change). Cost me about RM2k. Not sure about the manual gearbox though.

As for the workshop, for me it's Optimum at Kayu Ara.

I see that your location is Kajang, so if you don't mind the distance, I suggest you go to Optimum for advise.

My E30 was an auto when I first got it. However, too much 'enthusiastic' shifting with the lower gears meant that the box started slipping after about a year plus.
Converted it back to manual (apparently it was originally a manual and converted to auto :-/ ) at a cost of about rm3k if I remember.

That was one of the best things I've done to me E30 ever. :D The manual was way better and also better mileage as well.

bro evilnickwong,

thank you for your sharing. I think im gonna get manual tranny but most of the time i will travel to kl city so now still considered auto tranny since traffic jammed unpredictble.

bro bob, mine to share where is exactly the kayu ara workshop?

It's at Jalan PJU 6a/3a, Kayu Ara.

Here's roughly how to get there:
1. If you come from NKVE, exit at Damansara.
2. After the toll, keep to the most left.
3. After a used car shop, you can see Esso station. Take the road small road that's leading to that Esso.
4. Go a bit further after the junction and you can see Petronas NGV Station.
5. Go further straight about 150m and you can see Optimum on your left. It's the first shop with lots of BMW there.

Hope it helps. :)

a good one is not easy to come by and even there is one ..better be ready to pay a premium on it ...

most e30's out there ..nothing much i would say, but the asking price is ain't worth it at times ...especially those you see on mudah these days ... it's either being rusted with a high price tag and some sellers think they are the only one that owns a BMW ....

last i heard an e30 halfy cost nearly 5G's or more ...and for a decent rust work and paintwork ...fuhh be prepared ..

therfore take you time to find for a good one ..rather then just jumping into getting one ...old doesn't mean it's cheap ...

bythe way which part of kajang are you from ..?

bro what is your opinion? is the price reasonable? tmmrrw afternoon will meet the owner and his ride.

I'm no expert when it comes to pricing :p . Maybe more experienced members can give advise on this.

However I noticed that the dashboard is covered. Maybe it is cracked, so you might wanna check on that one. If it's not too bad, then no worries for that.

Good luck tomorrow bro.
