New windscreen cracked by itself

Had a cracked ws. Send to TS Ipoh to change last week. Got my car back on Thursday. 2 days later after my siesta, saw my new ws had cracked by itself. Went to TS today and was told it was an impact crack! What nonsense when it had cracked whilst parked in the porch. My complaint was dismissed outright by the service advisor and a mechanic. Now they are forensic experts too! What to do next?

I have phoned the Manager to complained. She was not aware of my case prior to my call. This shows the SA's attitude. He has not taken my complain seriously. Won't let this matter rest so easily but will take legal action if necessary.

Wow, what a weird problem for it to crack by itself. Anyway, you'll probably need to make a fuss to get them to move on it.

In cases like this, even if you go to the tribunal how do you substantiate your case?

Had a long thought about this and decided to have the crack repaired. Cost RM250/. As car still under warranty, not worth spoiling the goodwill with the dealer going to the tribunal. Also as bro JBJB say, how to substantiate it. The repairer was recommended by TS manager who actually refer me to him for an independent opinion re the crack. However he is not independent as she had called him earlier and ..........

Was it a large crack?

I do believe a piece of glass can crack spontaneously. Had it happen to a fixed piece of tempered glass in my house. It had been installed for months, then suddenly one morning it completely shattered into thousands of pieces. The supplier also at a loss to explain how it happened.

The occurance of self cracking windscreens is not unusual. It does happen. It might be a very small percentage in the overall picture but if you check on the net, you will find quite a few of such cases la. No one seems to know why.

The crack when I first saw it after having parked the car in the car porch almost the whole day, was about 5 inches starting from the side inwards. Next morning it had grown longer to about double the length. Then it slowed down and minimal increase over the next two days when I had it repaired.

Had a similar experience with my former E60. After an overnight parking under my porch a 7 inches crack apperared starting from the side inwards. Was told by the repairer that chances were that there could be a small chip/crack occurred at the very edge of the windscreen (and not spotted earlier) and over time it would increase in length.
