Had the opportunity to see the new 1 series, and equipped with the new 4 pot turbo engine.1. Looks better than the current 1 series

Overall I would say a much better looking car than the outgoing one, will more performance to boot as well. If priced right, BMW could have a winner here.

Is it me or is this new engine bay looks a bit more messy than the last few modern tidy looking BMW engines? Wires coming out here and there.

Otherwise a very good looking car though.

i still find it not attractive...the front doesn't work for me at all...and the engine looks so unBMW...

And to think this is the same engine that's going to go into the F10 523i/528i! Yikes!
Give me back my straight-six, BMW!!!! :p

Front end still looks urghhhh, rear looks like a VW Polo by far the worse offering from BMW to date! If like this then i say bring back chris bangle!! (never thought i would say that lol) But the interior looks nice ...

Nice 118i, 1.6L, 170hp@4800rpm, 250Nm@1500-4500. The future is efficient..

Not the same engine, the 5er is getting the N20 which is also in X1 and Z4. This is N13, going to be shared with mini..

Same here... moving forward, hopefully overtime it settle in me....

nice pictures ...bundy when will you get a day to whack this car ...maybe a review from you is what everyone is waiting for .... and with some pictures b4 and after test drive

This is actually a sneak preview for the Singapore media.

Haven't got the chance to drive it yet, maybe early next year.

The car shown is a sportline version with performance parts.

The 120D was reviewed in the Sept 11 issue of TG UK magazine.

It got a rating of 14/20.

And here's the quote the writer used just under the heading -"BMW's budget offering is now better than ever to drive. Shame it still looks a bit weird..."

Yes, the future is efficient. It will be 4 pot turbo(s) in the very near future. It's not only BMW but other manufacturers as well, Mercedes, Audi, VW and few days back Volvo has also made the same announcement.

For BMW the philosophy is 500cc per cylinder construction.

Quattro won't transfer torque to wheels with traction?

Quattro does, but the range betwee axles is from 30-70% where as the X drive is from 0-100%. That's why the q5's rear wheels were still spinning because 30% of the torque is still transmitted to the rear axle where as in the X3, 100% of the available torque is transmitted to the front axle to pull the car over the rollers.

Quattro is mechanical... X-drive is more high-tech whereby the ECU controls the torque transfer.

yes, at 1st glance, the first thing that hit my mind is the POLO rear,,, wtf

honestly, apart from e92 & latest z4...none of the latest models appeals me in terms of looks...

The main difference is the differentials used. The Audi (and the rest of the VW family including Cayenne) uses a Torsen center differential (Torsen short for Torque Sensing) where as the Xdrive uses a power transfer box made up of multiple wet plate cluthes, controlled electronically.

There is much more to it, but BMW is really into some fancy differential engineering like what is in the X6 and the upcoming F10 M5 where a newer ///M Differential will be revealed.

Hmm hope all the new stuff is as reliable as rock.
