About 2 weeks ago, I installed multimedia interface, a pioneer dvd player, front and reverse camera. And after using these for couple of weeks, I realize something is not right. The radio reception from the dvd player is just crap. It is worst than the fm booster (I was told it has to be removed coz it conflicts to the dvd player. I doubt it now). FM can't tune to some local stations and most tuned stations are worst than proton car's radio. Tuned stations in higher frq like 95.8, 97.2 in JB deliver unconstant tone. Believe or not, I can't find a single station at all in Batu Pahat! Not to mention in the PLUS. I notice I paid for an radio antena which is sticked on top of the inner wind screen. I went back to the shop. The boss said I need to install an additional 'signal booster' but it was out of stock and ask me to wait. The sound qulity of MP3 played thru USB of the player is also unacceptable. Ok, I don't know whether the installation method is right thus need your advice. The dvd player is actually taps to orginal radio station at 88.7. When I player anything from the player, I need to switch to FM at 88.7. Besides, the reverse camera was initially working fine. The Idrive sometimes prompts the license plate bulb need to change. So, i went back for help. The same guy added a ic in between the camera cable. Guess what? Now the reverse camera is burned!!! Can anyone comments whether the installation is correctly done? Can I utilize the original shark fin attena without adding any extra attena? How can I get better MP3 quality?

I understand your predicament... I just want to tell you that it's virtually impossible to listen to radio via the DVD player. Been there.. done that!!! Did some homeworks and realised that the iDrive has to be programmed in order to have the local radio stations. Depending on the version of your iDrive, there are 2 results:

1) those with brownish iDrive screen will have all the stations set and you can tune to any radio station taht you prefer.
2) those with newer silverish iDrive screen (ver.33 or 35 and above) will have to scan for all the stations everytime you tune into the radio. And then all the radio stations frequency will only be displayed in the "All Stations" section. You can't tune.. all the stations will be scanned automatically depending on where you are.. in JB, they will scan for those JB frequency. Just like that!

Unfortunately this is the only option if you are a radio freak... P.S: DO NOT add any additional antenna as I've been told that it's ineffective

Not tryin to pour cold water on you but I don't really think that the radio booster is going to do you any good. Don't commit first.. Install and if everything is fine.. Pay!

Thanks thule, will see what he can do for me first.

BTW, do you know whether FM booster can co-exist with the DVD player? I am thinking if the so called radio booster is not going to work then i will install back my FM booster n set a freq (88.7) for DVD player.

I know FM booster is no good but atleast not as bad as current issue.

Before i bought my 06 525I m-sport japan specs last november,,, i got much information from here. One of them is this issue whr thule hav share alot on tis, especially on japan specs and ccc. Knowing that my ride would be in 3 mths warranty, i was obliged to do all those sensitive stuff with thier panel in order to fulfill the warranty requirements. With those info from here..i basically know whats going to be propose and price wise. This is what i have been quoted by them and done.

a) Pioneer dvd player ( usb, bluetooth n etc ) - RM 1,100 ( on hold...hesitate cos do not like it to be in the ori cd changer position in the glove box as what have seen in thule's pics. The installer said the same that is the only place to be. Though i later i got to know from Racingfit AV technician that it is possible to place it below the ori cd & MD player panel which is the wood grain panel, not yet do bt wil update if it is true or not. It is most prefer position coz easy to insert disc and Pendrive's, no obstruction bt only when the gear knob is in P position, wil thr be a bit obstruction for dvd disc, stil it is managable. DVD changer is gd bt it dun have USB n etc )

b)E60 multimedia interface and reverse camera - RM 2500 ( done )

c)Garmin navigation map - RM 2100 ( on hold...no budget...mayb opt for cheap hand held units )

d)To set TV Free and to convert FM frequency - RM 1300 ( done)

e) Aux input ( optional if ur ride dun comes with it, luckily mine is d newer silverish version n hav it, u need this for the dvd player configurations ) - RM 600 ( no need )

Tru what i understand fron the installer that as long as you have fitted the interface, u can upgrade the rest gradually. So far my radio works vry well n my tv works well when d car is in stationary bt disturbance during driving. It all depends on the area u r moving n the frequency signal strength.

Thanks & Kudos to u Thule....
Proud to b a bimmer like u ...

Hope that helps...

I just got my radio issue fixed. The pioneer DVD player I installed comes with a feature called ASR. The installer took quite sometim to configure it (not sure he switch it off or on coz I cant find any instruction for this setting) and now the radio sounds much much 'smoother' than before. He mentioned to install a 'radio booster' if the ASR settting doesn't help. Fortunately, no extra hardware is required.

The player is fitted under the glove compartment which I need to use RC to select station and I found very inconvenient. That's y I still seek for opinion to use back idrive radio. It will be perfect if it can fit under the md and cd changer.

bd9229, how long did it take you to configure the radio to local frq? Does it require to update the firmware?

hi bro,

Nt vry sure on the exact time, it was done before delivery coz of warranty issues. But i know that it was at the shop for fixing all mentioned half a day, went thr to visit during lunch. probably the tv n fm free take less than that. About the firmware thng, i m nt sure bt i know from him a e60 multimedia interface is needed. This was done at d dealer panel shop M Sonik at kg pandan. The price quoted i suspect hav a cut to dealer, so probably it will be cheaper to other or elsewhere. I hav no choice n obligated to the price due to warranty. Hope i paid the fair price....neway u can always check with other establish shops on this..trust most will know.

As for the dvd player install at the wood panel was quoted possible by racingfit av installer..sunway, M-sonik says it is only possible at glove compartment..dunno who is right or wrong?? wil knoe soon once i m free to install the player at racingfit..

Hope that helps

It is possible :D I have seen one living example myself... The DVD player was installed at the wood panel below the original CD & MD player. Most Japan spec E60 has only DTC switch there which is basically useless in malaysia. I thought of installing the DVD player there before but felt "sayang" to see my aluminum cube trim to be cut. In the end I opted to be installed in the glove compartment. Added additional sensor so that the RC could detect my DVD player.

Maybe it's just me but if you are OK with them cutting a hole in your trim & to accommodate the DVD player.. Just do it :D

Yes.. The most important part is to install the Multimedia Interface first :D
Most DVD player already come with USB input but not at the front. If you choose to install DVD player with USB capability, there is an adapter which they can wire into your glove compartment box :top: that way, it won't messy and at the same time you can enjoy thousand of songs through the pen drive :D by the way Kenwood DVD player come with USB for te high end model.. For RM1100 that you have to pay, I'm pretty sure that there is USB.. Do check with your installer. If you need help, let me know and I'll direct you to my regular ICE guy in PJ ok?
For the navi, unfortunately there is only Garmin that comes with module unit.. So either Garmin gvn or just go for the external handheld ones.. In this case, Papago is better compared to Garmin IMHO!

P.S: I have been wanting to convert the FM frequency for the longest time as I love listening to radio but until this day, no budget & no time.. Lol!!

If that place is confirmed to fit, I will suggest to use a wood board and cut to the size. Also, we can laminate the board with carbon fiber sticker to make it look nice. hahaha... hope this is not a funny way.
