hi bros..mine was acting weirdly for the past few weeks....gear seems to be sluggish in changing...& when the accelarator press hard it will kickback as usual but the problem is.....it will automatically behave like sport mode & there is no cruising gear@ 4th gear anymore...even after slow down , stop the ignition & restart back, the gear behave the same....only the next morning, when its cold, & i step the accelerator pedal lightly, then the gear shift normally, but if suddenly step hard then the problem start.....i've drain & change the tranny oil & filter but no improvement...really need opinion from u guyz.....do u think that this is a solely gearbox problem or anything to do with the electronics?...thanks....

thanks bro for the response..

yes i did that few times already....but nothing happened....the car seems to lose it overdrive function...& now function in a full sport mode....it won't change gear until 3000++ rpm & speed to rpm ratio at100 km/h- 3500 rpm....normally in overdrive 100km/h=2300rpm or 160km/h =3500rpm

i consulted few mechanics verbally...they said the tranny need overhaul or change to recon unit...is it true? what is ur advice?....

be prepared to fork out at least 3k for tranny overhaul. Mine I overhauled for over 4k 5years ago due to transmission won't change gear, it will only stick to gear 2 or 3 when cold and sometimes only 4th gear is available so got it overhauled.

thanks bro...

yes...i think i will o/haul the gearbox...car at this age (20 yrs old) sure got so many rotten parts inside....he he he.....at least it will become like new again with all the worn parts replaced....

i see quite a number here members that did tranny o/haul w satisfying result....

cheers...

Hey, same problem with me car recently too. Just overhauled the gearbox. Cost me RM 3K just as 'wptee' said but the gearbox is as good as new too. Had the same issue; when starting from cold, my car wouldn't shift from 1st gear, and may sometimes hit RPMs as high as the redline before I decided to ease of the accelerator. But after a short while, and sometimes when stopping at the lights for a while, the car would suddenly shift as usual. I know mine was faulty because of the way I drove; I simply loved to pick up at the lights or when coming out of tolls till the gearbox experienced a truly awful jerking motion when shifting gears.

But ever since the overhaul, the car is as good as new. Gearbox was a lil' tight at first but it's loosened up now and simply a great pleasure to drive. Of course, I have to keep reminding myself that I shouldn't go back to my old waysssss.... But sadly, old habits do die hard don't they? ;P

yea, if you take good care of your gearbox then it will last for years. Just had my gear selector switch changed yesterday for RM305, an electronic thingy under the gear stick which senses whether gear is in PRND321. Mine was loose while in D and under hard braking gear will move away from D to nothing (between N and D, hence nothing shown on instrument cluster) and gear will not change to 4th gear, so got it changed and problem solved.

now in the progress of overhaulin the tranny, now i know the culprit...my mechanic show me the worn clutchplate /pack after tearing down my gearbox...hahaha...its really scary to see him tear it apart & put the components on the towel....bit & pieces ....he better know how to put it back...if not...... pssssfthhgggg.....now waiting for the new clutch set+ ring+ gasket.

not finalised yet, but the inside stuff cost 1k++, plus labour i think should be around 2-3k...still waiting for the parts..

doing it at my area...batu pahat

What's the outcome bro? Is your car as good as new after the overhaul? :top:

In case anyone looking for E32 735 Gear box, I have one in very good condition, selling cheap2.. PM me if interested.

hi there..

updates after long silence..& heartache..
my last tranny o/haul turn out to be complete disaster..the pomen is not good at all...the gear change became more sluggish...hv to really floor the pedal to make her move..still had missing final gear & the worst...he opened up my gearbox total..5x within the period of 4 mths!!..

lastly, i hv final talk w him..to stop all the nonsense, paid him peanuts & sent my car to other mechanic..this time i did'ny ask for o/haul but just change it to recon/ 2nd hand unit w warranty..coz the recent burns still ache..

this time i make a correct move..he is a reputible bmw & merc mechanic proposed by my other bmw owner friends..within 24 hrs i hv replacement for my g/box & within a week i'm driving it...

Now i'm a very happy person..no more gear loss..the new g/box is really smooth..this is what UDM is all about..

Sorry Zank if u read this...i didn't take ur tranny coz i'm not sure how many pins my unit has..no heart feeling ok..

lessons learn by hard way...don't sent ur car until u are very sure the mechanic is experience enough. & always seeks for advice from ur bmw owner friends, not wira owners, kancils owner, toyota owner or other brands owner..like me when i choose the 1st pomen- its my wira owners advice..

cheers..

good to know that yr baby is running fine now. Yes, the E32 weak point is gearbox. I had a scary experience where all my gears dun engage. But after stop and restart engine, it's ok now. Sigh... now just see how far the car can go now.

Exactly. However, even though the g/box is a common weakness, the m30 engine itself is very robust & the stability of e32 has no comparison. That's why i still keep her. I dun mind replacing g/box once in a while as long as i can enjoy the ultimate driving experience.. ha ha

Cheers.
