Basically, i was told my 2.0 6 cyclinder have 2 type. Either its 1999 model 2.0 6 cyclinder or 2001 model 2.2 6 cyclinder too. But i checked my year of manufactured from AP and the CC. Its clear stated 2.0 and year 2001.This info really confusing me, cant really do service for best result. No matter is which spec, which range of engine oil should i choose ? Full synthetic 5-40 or 10-50w ? how about gearbox oil, i was suggested by my supplier use MOTUL ATF1 (really good). The only information i get is right is my car fully imported from Japan. So should i go for petrol 95 or 97 ? There is an headact problem so far i found on my weird Engine is whenever i go from 0-60km/h, sometimes the engine go smooth as usual quite (normal power & fuel comp), but sometimes have a big fan sound and that also effect my 0-60km/h (feel heavy & high fuel comp). More important, i drive like an OLD MAN, go slowly. I pump RM50 when engine no sound, can go around 250km. But if engine got sound, only can reached 150km.Hopefully all the sifu/master can help me out on these few weird problems. Really appreciate.Tomo ArigatoPerry,

Dear Perry,
- Use 5W-40 if possible but if your engine oil level drops fast, use 10W50.
- Check your engine code and google it up to see if yours is 2.2 or 2.0.
- ATF, if you are unsure, use BMW original ATF fluid. Sparepart shops sell it around RM45/litre. White colour.
- Weird engine sound? What sort of sound?

Dylan,

I m quite excited to read your post.
Reading your post, am i wrong to say that if i use 5w, there is possibility that is the cause for my engline oil level keep dropping?
Coz if i remember correctly, before this i use 10w and i have no problem of engine oil dropping...i never consider that coz i thought it was just a coincidence. mind to elaborate more?

thanks

i think your fan sound should come from the fan clutch. if fan clutch is clutch then you will hear the loud fan sound and you will feel a bit heavy when you acc your car. when your engine de-clutch that time you will feel more power. i think this is normal to every car. i'm now using SACHS brand. someone saying BEHR brand is batter. try to change your fan clutch and see.....

sewell, you're right on that. Its confirmed that sound from the fan. Whenever engine get heated, the fan will turn fast when acc. Its kind of annoying and feel heavier. So did u change the fan clutch ? which u think better? alot better or just minor.

Perry,

Perry,

As my experience, the engine oil you have depend on your car mileage. How many km done? If your car already done more than 160k KMs, and your car age is nearly 9 years. I will suggest you to use 10 - 50w engine oil.
As those masters in this forums said, the fan sound is really a normal problem.

Cheers
