dun dream of even getting it.. unless you have another car to drive when your car sits in the workshop waiting for spare parts to arrive..

that's why it's cheap.. had a customer in BM world that his car was so called fixed by a gearbox specialist, and they couldn't fix it, so ah wai too gave up and told the owner to convert it to manual.. if there's a manual set up available..

regards.

oic, so which mean smg is not good? wat about 320 vanos? or 325 normal? do u know the diff between 325smg n 325normal?

Some thought to your question.

1) Is the SMG 325 always got problem with the gearbox?
My friend whom also one of the forumers here used for 4 years, so far no problem. He is using 325 SMG year 2002

2) What is the fuel comsumption like?
Its a little bit higher than 325i if always using paddle shifter

3) How much is the roadtax?
Same as 2.5L car about RM870

4) izit high maintainace cost owning a bimmers?
Yes, if u send your car to AB. No, if u send your car to Bimmer specialist. But don't expect as low as kancil or proton cost.

5) is SMG good? fast? how much HP?
My friend had tried 220km/h, and hp about 208 stock

or should i get normal 325? 320?

Hear it from a current SMG owner:

1. Depends on how u used it. If u are a rough driver then the frenquency to change the plate and actuator is there. If u are a relax driver and sometimes do utilised the car as it should be then, it should not give any problem. It is a fun car to drive then the normal 325 as the set up are all M spec. Send the car to AB then u will have less problem. It is a bit costly but when compare to BM Auto or the rest, it is not much. AB gives 2 years warranty while the rest do not.

2. Fuel is about the same.

3. Road tax the same.

4. Maintenance cost is welllllllllllll...................depends. What do u expect? Cheap as a japan car or proton??

5. If u like good pick up and excellent road handling then SMG is the answer & the hp is the same. The difference is full M Sport kits, bucket elec seats, paddle shfits on the steering, etc....

I am planning to sell mine as my family has grown and need a bigger car. I enjoy the car but need to as NEED more space for the family. Interested, call me 012-2389411.

Hi Newbie,

Some input for your consideration (if you are still considering...)

1) Problem with gearbox? Not really...in my view. You just have to understand that sequentials are not autos. They are manuals but use actuators to move the clutch, plus some electronics to govern the gearbox from damage. Should last approx 100k before some maintenance is required.

2) In my experience, I regularly turn 440km per full tank.

3) Road tax is by CC, - so approx RM700+

4) Like what the other forumers have said...bimmers are bimmers. Dont expect honda, toyota or proton maintenance costs. SMG doesnt really add more to the maintenance unless its actuators/clutch are worn.

5) Is SMG good? its great for spirited drive, esp in Sports mode. Gives that control that the normal autos cant. Blip up and down...e.g, blip to 4th or 3rd, for instantaneous acceleration to overtake on kampung roads. On track days, you could use the Launch control..by disabling the DSC, car will rev to 4000rpm and then jets...tyres smoking. But you have to learn to shift like youre driving a manual...takes some time to get the rhythm right, then its rewarding. If you are impatient, lazy,...then just stick to the good ol autos.

I bought my SMG because it gives me a more engaging drive. Normal autos may just be as powerful, but the drive is definitely less engaging. It is a proper sports saloon, with power, comfort and sporty driving pleasure all in one. I hardly drive it in Cruise mode, as the manual gives me more control of the RPM (less jerky too). Just need to get some practice on the shifting.

Maintenance wise? I will find out in time, as I've only owned it for over a month. However, as I was told by many, as long as you know how to handle the gearbox - it shouldn't cost you that much extra than a normal 325.

Getting currios with the cc... i own 325i smg, but im paying the road tax for 15++ for a year and in my road tax it state that the cc of my car is 2766 or so can exactly remember the last two figure rite..

Izzit true with the cc or some JPJ officer accidentally felt asleep while typing in the cc.. Is ther a 325 smg with that cc or it just 2.5. where can i check the real cc and izzit posible to change it at the JPJ.

If I am not mistaken, the road tax should be around RM900. This applies for any 325, SMG or not. Engine is the same.

Hi riezal

i test drive 325 smg today, on a C mode...is it normal to feel the jerking when the gear changed especiallay at the lower gear

YM is right - as he answered the same questions for me before I bought the car:top:

In order to reduce the jerk, you need to 'understand' when the gear will shift in C mode. So just when the gear start to shift, you should slightly lift-off the throttle and then step on the throttle again like normal. Once you get the timing right, there will be very minimal jerk.

Understand that the SMG is in fact a manual gearbox, except that the computer controls the clutch for you. So think as if you were driving a manual car - when you step on the clutch to change gear, you would lift-off the accelerator. SMG does the same, but only faster (and even faster in Sport mode) - so you only need to lift-off the accelerator slightly.

Saifuw, you should also check out YellowMellow's SMG. He is selling it and the gearbox comes with Auto Bavaria warranty!

how to use the launch control? i tried so many times but it doesnt work. something goes wrong?
i turn the dsc and dtc off and in sport mode.

but not pedal to the metal(or i need to hit the kick down as well?).
what i read from the manual (smgII though) it says holding the gear down? how?
thanks in advance.

in my opinion, SMG does give more power. your on-the-wheel power must be higher then an auto unit due to less power lose.
