Hi Guys Recently i found that when the car is idle, the RPM meter goes up and down.. some times the car just stop. If i try to ram the car, RMP increase very slow ... feel like heavy... while driving found not smooth... is it due to Air flow sensor or other problem.. can anyone please advice... Important not... when the Rpm meter goes up and down .. can see a black smock with drips of water flowing out of the exhaust..... E36 325i 1994 model... any advice plsIf air flow sensor .. anyone willing to sell or where can i get it .. how much roughly it will cause.

New ones should be about RM800-900 (or about there). Used ones around Rm300.

Thanks Albundy

But just wanna to know something ... is there any chances it will affect the Engine in long term... since some times I have the prob n some times I dont ( for the pass few days the car seems ok ... what is ur advise??

atleast Im free from worries when I saw Black smoke on my car during RPM up and down.....

Ops jangan marah... any idea how to confirmed it .. Does only the electronics equipment used by the mechanic able to show it or I can do it my self... since some times OK and some times not... Atleast I can find for the parts my self before getting to the workshop and ask them to fixed it... hehehe
cheaper abit.. ( budget )

dude,

for your model it is the mass air flow sensor... costs new is around RM1800. potong ones is about rm250-500 depending on how good you know that potong guy.

a few days ok then later not ok is the telltale sign... one day it will die off and you are stuck somewhere...
happened to me, car can not start in the IKEA basement :( had to call tow truck friend, luckily can tow out after tow truck wiggle here and there and waited a few hours

that is after i changed to potong one. tried a few potong ones but somehow all died after a few weeks...
lastly got fedup and changed to new one... then not a single problem after that... except wallet seems much lighter ;(
for the pain-in-the-a** hassle might as well change it from the moment got DA sign... :(

this one very easy to diy...

I think I am facing the same problem with my MAF. I didnt drive the car yesterday but to move it a bit when a contractor came to my house. Today morning when I took the car out, the RPM started to sputter. After pressing the gas and driving off, it went away.

That coupled with my occasional problem of the car dying when I switch off the AC gets me worried about my Air Flow Sensor @ MAF on the 325i.

I had similar problem with my E30 until I changed to a recon AFM for RM600. It came back after a few months and my mech changed it FOC.

If it is the MAF I would rather get a new one as recon ones arent really reliable. Anyone know what it cost new?

Thanks.

A new unit would cost about RM 2000....just a ball park figure but should be around that price.
