Just got a call from my credit card company telling me that somebody is on a spending spree using my credit card.Checked my wallet and realised that I may have dropped the card yesterday. Cancel the card immediately.I need advice on what to do the items that have been charged by the thieve. The CC card asked me to wait for the bill before disputing those charges.Need some advice esp from lawyers or people in finance on what is the best way to proceed. Do I need to lodge a police report? Is it advisable to wait for the statement before taking the next step? Thanks in advance

1) Lodge a police report on the date/time of CC loss.

2) Cancel the CC / inform the CC company

3) Wait for bill and dispute like crazy

4) Some CC companies/banks cover you against fraud and unauthorized spending.

I lost of my cards not too long ago, had to wait till the statement came then disputed all charges that I did not recognise.. Like you thinice, didn't realise until the bank called up.. CErtainly very grateful for that..

Depending on your bank's T&C, you may be liable but up to a certain limit.

Nowadays, most credit card issuers apply a ZERO liability to their cardholders provided it was reported within a specific time frame (in your case, you are within it).

As long as it's not done by you & doesn't have your genuine signature, the dispute will be on your favour.

I would say you can start the dispute process as long as those transactions are out of authorization.

Fill up a form & wait for the outcome.

Cheers!

Thanks guys for the advice,

This card is from the Ambank

Any more suggestions?

never sign anything from the bank on this until u have sought advice on it....

You got me scrambling to check the cards in my wallet:eek:

I think you stand a good chance to fight with the bank simply because its AmBank. The larger banks will tell you to pay and will be willing to go top court for it....you turn to the central bank they will ask you to contact the banking mediation bureau which will then tell you to pay off:mad:
