recently i have notice this on my car it will jerk when im driving at normal speed . it happen when after climbing a slope ie. the road at north south highway after jelapang toll heading to penang after that hill climbing my car will jerk . why ? when my car on normal road condition then onli like that . when on the way back same thing happen again this time on the other side pulak .what is the problem

I would seriously look at your gearbox.

If it is the gearbox, you would want to do something about it as soon as possible while there are still options open.

Vincent,

Try it on both E mode and S mode and see if the force or the timing of the jerking changes. If it does, then this further increases the probability that it is the gearbox.

Other simpler gearbox tests...
1. delay in engaging R
2. jerking when engaging R while being stationery facing downslope...

Other factors to consider.
1. Has the gearbox been reconditioned before?
2. What is the mileage of the car now? A new gearbox may last around 100k - 150k km depending on driving and maintenance history...

And what thinice said is right, if it's your gearbox, sort it out asap. Leaving it will only cost you more when you finally do it and also the overhaul becomes less effective.

OVerhaul, RM4-5k. New, RM 18-20k... Good luck.

Vin,
If its not the gearbox, maybe maybe maybe...try to check your air flow meter..

Bro Lee i also having the delay when i engage to R but there is no jerking or slipping and any prob with my gearbox at all .... only prob is delay ... so what should i do

It might be your lucky day! I had the similar problem a month ago. My problem was the Distributor and Spark plug Cables. Got it changed and it drives graciously again.

You may buy used distributor set with cables at chop-shops if you wanna save some cash.

Good luck.

Since there is no jerking or slipping yet, and if I want to avoid the cost of a rebuild, I wud change the gearbox oil, and monitor the car for further signs of deterioration.

In the long run, a rebuild would be necessary, because the gearbox, like all things, have a finite lifespan. Care and maintenance would prolong that lifespan somewhat. Cheers.

Bimmer78,

my apologies. The above reply was typed using a friend's PC. I forgot to log in as myself. Cheers.

thanks guys for the help , pls give me more input thanks very much

hey..i got a similar situation regarding this matter too..but mine happens when im in 2nd gear, more a less...when i hit 2nd gear and leave the car moving on its own, it'll sometimes jerk when the car starts to slow down. What seems to be the problem here? I've got my gearbox oil changed and some minor servicing to it. as for my car mileage..it's about 175K

well..since the problem is somewhat similar..i figured that i could tag along hehehe, can kill two birds with one stone~..well, sorry bout dat..

Experience same kind of problem yesterday. Went to north and while cruising at 140km, notice that my car seems loss of power a few seconds and back to normal again. It happens intermittenly along the highway. But town drive, seems pretty normal. :dunno: Is it possible related to my tranny or maybe it's on engine part for ex: my spark plug cable or something else :(

could be crank shaft sensor about to go..

get it check before you are stranded by the roadside. :eek:k:

It happened to once before.. and after the crank shaft failed, the car could not start until the sensor was changed..
