at least twice a day...
but my ride is an e30...
sigh...the kl jam toyol at work i guess!!!

COuld be the ignition coils maybe...common problem it seems on e46's....other sifu's please put in ur opinions :D

My friend's e36 325 suffered the same problem as well. the culprit was his crank angle sensor which measures the flywheel speed and sends the signal to the ECU for ignition timing. it was coated with oil and dirt thus preventing the sensor from reading the teeth on the flywheel. the problem was rectified after cleaning the sensor and fixing the leak near the oil filter.

The sensor's wire may be the culprit too. These sensors have a thick wire that doesn't like to bend, and if it is bent it will usually snap. If this sensor's wire is broken, your spark plugs will not fire. your's could be broken internally, and everytime your brake or stop the car, the change of momentum must have severed the connection thus shutting off the ignition.

bro tyke
i think your case is air flow sensor

Try your idling actuator, adjustor valve and throttle body. :yahoo:

Sifus...please help...me guessing only :yahoo:

agree with anakin..the throttle body, valve & air flow meter most likely the culprit..

Gothic,

Let us know once u've got it fixed. PLease share what was wrong bro :D

BT!

Gothic..seems like lot of problems here & there that giving the same symptom, so in my opinion (not advice aaa..coz i'm not a mech) go for the cheapest one first like servicing your throttle body + airflow sensor. If it doesn't work, then...sad to say.
Don't just simply change everything suspect....
IT WILL BLOW A BIG HOLE IN YOUR POCKET...

gothic,

anakin does have a point :D try not to spend unnescessarily is possible :D
petrol now expensive mah :D

2 options, bro - Mega Benz or AB...
Jeff,

His car is grey import, AB will not service.

BTW, it's a nice car with 170hp.

anakin,

i recently got my fuel pump replaced with a new unit, new fuel pump relay and it was ok for a few days thn it reoccured...sigh...
thn i think i found out the culprit....
the darn fuel pump relay base(where the fuel pump relay box is) 2 plastic clips tht locks in the fuel pump relay had turned brittle and snapped and tht proly resulted in the relay loosing contact thus my engine shutting down abrubtly a few times a day...

so for now i got the fuel pump locked in securely with a ouple of cable ties...
if nothing persists afte this thn tht shuold b the problem...

BUT....if the problem still persists thn i will definately get my mech to chck out the throttle body and/or the air flow sensor...
any idea how much it costs to replace?
should meet up some day bro.

thnx for the advice...

joe_myinc,been real bz lah bro...we catch up some time okies...

gothic,
well i hope tht ur problem is resolved too and do keep us updated as to the culprit okies...
