Greetings! I have a 318i 2.0 e46 2002 Recently I had hard time with it... Whenever I speeding, the temperature goes up... I sent to workshop , replaced thermostat, hoses, radiator, spare tank and still have the same issue... I need advice for this... Because the spare parts are too expensive ... Thank you! Cheers BMW Malaysia! From axel

can u specify the time of the day ( morning / noon / nite) that you speeding as well as the speed that you reached. do tell us the temp gauge shown at which level. it would be helpful for us to troubleshoot your car bro

Ok first of all, thanks for the reply and view.
Here is my condition, when I was speeding, I think it was two weeks ago...
At karak highway, I tekan until 200kph then the temperature rose until the red section then the red light appeared... I stop the car immediately and let it cool down. Finally, towed it back to workshop...
Back from the workshop, my car got replaced radiator, hoses, spare tank, thermostat.. And the bill kills me:stupid:
I thought this is the end of the nightmare but last week I speed again until 200 kph. This time I reached Kuantan and the temperature gauge rose till red section
And I got my car towed back to thTe workshop again...
Now my car is in my garage ... I don't dare to speed again but what is the pleasure if I drive a BMW slowly ?
Thank you !
Cheers! BMW ftw!!!

First of all STOP speeding on public roads where you can kill innocent people including kids and ruin lives of the living. Take the car to a track and do as much speeding as you wish and enjoy. It will be much more fun, safer and cheaper. Stick to the limits on public roads. I never saw anything more than 100 km/h on and around Kuantan. You maybe a good driver but not everyone else is which is where the problem is on public roads. I saw a few horrible accidents on the Kuantan-KL highway during the very short time I spent on each trio. Having said all that. Do you think the 318i is built to run at 200 km/h on constant speeds? The Maximum speed listed on the manual is 218 km/h. You're expecting to use your 318i as an M3 in my opinon. Soon you will fry it if you dont manage to wrap it around something before that. Sorry to be harsh but I think most here will agree with me.

all i can say is ....take it back to the same worshop as he's done some of the works there and you've payed a sum for it to be repaired ...

all you know items are not being changed :) or a poor water bleed that would had left some airpocket in the cooling system ...

stay by your car and watch for yourself this time on them doing the work ...

Fgin bro, thanks for the concern :) everytime I do my speeding, my car will be fully inspected and my concentration will be fully invented. I'll take ur suggestion as take the car to the track :) cheers!
I don't think you are harsh but u are try to make my mind up
Thanks again for the remainder

Im glad you see my point which makes me believe you seem like a reasonable and inteligent guy :) take care and yes take it to a track and have loads of fun safely. :)

Btw let us know if you find anything wrong with the cooling system. I too think its not bled properly. Make sure you have the heater turned on at high setting and then bleed using the bleed screws. There are probably air pockets. But at the same time, can our N42 keep 200Km/h constantly ?

Greetings again! Yeah, my e46 can make it constant and even more ( I haven't tried before)
Anyway, the mechanic showed me the old parts and the new parts... Lastly I suspect the waterpump spoiled... I hope so...
After this nightmare, I am getting myself another e90 Lci
Thank you for reply!
Cheers!

when i drove my car 190, the gauge will slightly rose. i think it is normal as more heat generated at that speed. however when your gauge hit max redline, i think there must be something wrong with the cooling system. try check for water leaking at the hoses, radiator, thermostat, water pump, or even inspect the radiator cap and air bleed nut for any cracks. you may need to run your car few times after taking it out from workshop, check the water level, bleed the air out of the system and refill water to the designated level

and, dont speed on public road :) ....during peak hour

Ezzo369 bro, greetings! My e46 was replaced with new radiator, hoses, radiator cap, thermostat except waterpump... So I am suspecting it..
From your reply, I found out that it is normal that the temp will slightly rise for speeding, am I right? For your information
, mine is reached the red sector and the red light appeared...
And once again, thank you for remind me :) althought I only speeding in the perfect condition
Cheers! BMW ftw !

it could be your waterpump if not your head gaskets. to confirm waterpump leak, just monitor the water drip around the waterpump with the engine running. or else, your waterpump impeller may no longer in good condition. anyway just drive slow until u get your e90 ok! haha

Head gasket is already checked and seems no problem with it...
Now, waterpump has changed
Later I m going to test the car

Issue solved
Waterpump is the main cause

This time I didnt speed but I shift down to lower gear and drive with high rpms :)
Cheers!

am using N42 also..once in a while tekan around 180-200kph no issue..my temp gauge meter always remain at the middle at any speed..

Hi What had happened to the water pump ? Also do you mind letting me know how much it cost for the pump without labor? Was it an OEM pump or aftermarket ?
thanks axel. hope all goes well with the car from now onwards. Safe driving bro :)

greetings!
sorry for suppeeeer late reply man, i was busy with my stuffs and i got my e90 320d
for my old e46, the mechanic said the waterpump "the shaft has spoiled and the water cant pump inside the engine"
that's it from the mechanic...

the water pump i got charged rm500 and the labour cost me rm200

hmm... i know is abit expensive but i let my e46 go and got my 320d e90 ;)
oh btw, e46 is a good ride, fuel economic and power..
but just dont let those nightmares fall on your head because BMW is really a "Lady" car... =)
