Mobil 1 5W-50 For E36.

An Australian website, recommends Mobil 1 5W-50 for E36 M50 and 0W-40 for E46 M52 & M54. see http://www.drive.com.au/recommended-oil/bmw/3/pg3/@spg702/results.html I would think that this is based on thicker oil being for the older car. What do you guys think?.

Hi friend,
For lubricant oil, it will related to few factors, such as the engine previous maintenance history and the car owner's care on it.
Of course for those some years old vehicles, due to the engine parts wear and tear existed, so thicker oil is recommended.
However, if your engine is well maintainced, no necessary to use thicker lube oil since it was well protected.
